His mental power received no response. The Void Traveler in Zhen's Birdcage was like a slab of dead flesh. Yet there was no doubt that the mental fluctuation Angel had detected earlier had come from it.
"Do you possess intelligence? Can you communicate with people?" Angel asked again.
Silence.
"Were you captured by the Boiling Gentleman?" Angel asked once more.
There was still no response. The plumped-up Void Traveler seemed to have no intention of speaking with Angel.
Angel thought for a moment. "You said just now that you wanted me to release your companions?"
Perhaps the word "companions" had struck a nerve in the Void Traveler, for it finally sent another message: "You hateful villain! Hurry up and let my companions go!"
Angel could sense that, while this message was filled with rage on the surface, it concealed a trace of unease and apprehension beneath.
Angel understood very well where that unease and apprehension came from—it came from knowing its own limits.
The Void Traveler knew full well that it had been captured by the Boiling Gentleman and was now living under another's roof. Its kind was exceedingly weak; whether facing the Boiling Gentleman or Angel, they were so weak that they did not even have words of threat to offer. They could only release their surface anger, seeming to resist while being fierce in appearance but feeble in reality.
Yet according to Angel's understanding of Void Travelers, weren't these timid and frail Demonic Beasts supposed to remain quiet and keep a low profile at all times?
When under someone else's eaves, wasn't playing dead safer than opening one's mouth to provoke them?
Why? Was it because of... its companions?
