After a while, they stood outside a corridor filled with flowing water.
This corridor was completely different from the ones they had passed through before. Its four walls were made of a mercury-like substance, like mirrors on all sides.
Yet a gentle layer of water flowed across the floor of this corridor formed of mercury mirrors.
Because of the reflections, when one looked in from outside the corridor, it seemed to contain an infinitely vast shallow pool. In reality, though, it was about the same size as the other corridors.
"Are you sure this floor's secondary control node is inside?" Nis asked.
"The source through which all the magic pattern energy flows points toward the depths of this corridor," Angel's voice rang out through the Mind Tether. "Unless there is another path, the secondary control node is inside."
Nis turned to Reynolds. "Have you been here before?"
Reynolds shook his head blankly. "I had no idea there was such a corridor on the laboratory's third floor."
Nis sighed and said irritably, "And here I thought you'd lived here for decades."
Reynolds looked slightly embarrassed. He had indeed lived here for decades, but that did not mean he had been everywhere. Besides, they had found this place only after passing through a washroom with a high sequence number.
No one had expected there to be a hidden passage behind that high-sequence washroom.
It could be said that this area was unknown to the vast majority of laboratory personnel—a hidden snowbound region.
Since Reynolds could offer no help, Nis stopped looking at him and asked through the Mind Tether, "So what now? We go in?"
Angel made the Authority Eye nod up and down. "There is not much time left. We must enter as soon as possible and take control of the
