"Did you hear something?" Dox looked slightly puzzled. "What sound are you referring to?"

Angel closed his eyes, seeming to listen intently.

After a long while, Angel frowned faintly. "A very faint, very faint whisper repeating over and over. It seems to be saying something, but I can't make out the exact words."

Dox's expression turned grave after hearing Angel's description.

He imitated Angel and closed his eyes to listen. As he did, his ears mutated, becoming pointed and pitch-black, as though he had transplanted the ears of some Demonic Beast.

After a while, Dox shook his head. "Other than Kael's heavy breathing over there, I can't hear anything."

After a pause, Dox added, "Are you sure you heard it in this room?"

Angel shook his head. "I can't be sure either. The voice feels very far away. Though I can't hear it clearly, it seems to be calling my name."

Dox's brow furrowed tightly at Angel's words.

Angel had no reason to tell such a lie without cause. It was very likely something real had happened. And in most cases, this sort of thing was never good.

Dox had experienced something similar before. While exploring a ruin with companions, one of them claimed he seemed to hear someone calling him. Then, while no one was paying attention, he left the group. By the time they found him again, he had become a pile of dry bones.

Such calls often occurred in ruins. The caller might be some sealed outer god, an undead spirit, or some kind of monster.

If it was one of the latter two, they might still have a chance to deal with it. But if it was a sealed outer god, that would be terrifying.
