The Wise Sovereign had also caught the deliberate ambiguity in Angel's words, but he did not dwell on it. Instead, he brought up something unrelated. "I'm very interested in the source of your information. Would you be willing to discuss it with me?"
Angel said, "If I discuss it with you, will you let us pass? Well, what I mean is, you won't harm us—you'll let us go in and come back out safely, then leave."
The Wise Sovereign said, "Everything is open to negotiation, so long as you can meet the corresponding conditions."
"That was as good as saying nothing." Angel deliberately muttered the jab under his breath before raising his voice. "Then what conditions do we need to meet?"
The Wise Sovereign said, "Answer my questions."

So long as Angel discussed matters with the others, the Wise Sovereign could glean more information through observation.
Yet Angel did not discuss anything at all, as though he alone held absolute sway over the entire group. This made the Wise Sovereign wonder: was Angel truly their decision-maker? Or had they discussed countermeasures beforehand, deciding how to deal with him? But if they had truly worked out a strategy in advance, they would have needed an extraordinarily precise understanding of his personality—and not just anyone
