Angel actually had a few vague suspicions, but they all rested on one major premise.
That Wood Spirit was truly the one pulling the strings behind this.
Although Angel leaned toward Wood Spirit being responsible, he could not rule out other possibilities—for instance, the blonde woman in the painting from before.
Unfortunately, with the clues currently available, Angel could not determine who exactly was behind it all.
Still, uncovering the truth was not his current task. For many things, as long as the objective could be achieved, not knowing the truth was perfectly acceptable.
Just like this matter. Angel's goal was to find Wood Spirit, and whether he knew the truth had no direct bearing on that. As for Wood Spirit's location, the information they had already narrowed it down.
If nothing unexpected happened, Wood Spirit should be on the second level.
After leaving the fork in the road, Angel and the others walked for about a minute before they saw the first room fragment drifting near the Road of Void.
Angel gave it a cursory look. Finding nothing, he continued onward.
Soon, they found a second and then a third room fragment. It sounded as though three rooms had appeared along the right-hand path, but that was not the case. Though all three room fragments differed from one another, Angel had once visited the intact Stairway of the Hanging Prison in Abyss City. From what he remembered, the furnishings scattered across the three fragments seemed to have come from the same room.
In other words, these three room fragments had most likely broken apart from one large room. They had originally been one whole.
Perhaps because they had once been one, even their barrenness was exactly the same. The second and third room fragments likewise yielded no clues.
