"So, you turned misfortune into a blessing?" Dox stared at Wai in disbelief.
Wai nodded, a bashful look appearing on his face.
Dox was speechless. "I thought you were about to die just now. What a waste of my tears."
After a pause, Dox suddenly slapped his forehead, looking as though he had just realized something. "Ah, I nearly forgot. I wasn't the one crying—I didn't shed any tears at all. After all, your death would have been a relief to me too. At least no one would come mooch drinks at my tavern anymore."
Wai looked at Dox suspiciously. "That's not what you said just now. You were even talking about the road to truth..."
Stroking his chin, Dox said solemnly, "Those words were true too. After all, the road is long and endless. Setting out alone really is rather dull. Having a companion to amuse oneself with can at least ease the boredom."
Wai: "..."
Dox: "Of course, that's assuming you're alive. If you died, then..."
Wai: "Then what?"
Dox's gaze flicked toward Angel beside them. He moved closer and slung an arm over Angel's shoulders. "Then I could only find your idol to amuse myself with."
Faced with Dox's shamelessness, Wai forcibly held back an eye roll. "You can only say that now. Before long—perhaps within ten years—you might not even be able to catch a glimpse of my lord's back through the dust, yet you still dream of amusing yourself with him? Are you worthy?"
