Wise Sovereign did not expect Angel to bring him any surprises. As long as he could bring change—even change for the worse—he was willing to accept it.
The current Legacy Site, the current Lady Goddess, and his current self were like a wheel axle that had already been fixed in place, hardened beyond repair. With his abilities, he could pry that axle loose, yet he could not... because of rules and promises.
Thus, if an outsider could pry that axle loose, even if it was not in a good direction, Wise Sovereign believed that with his own calculations, he could still turn the tide. At worst, he would reset that severely hardened axle. Resetting meant starting everything over; when it came time to choose again, Wise Sovereign was confident he could break apart this ossified system.
Most importantly, after starting over, everything Wise Sovereign did would not violate the rules he had agreed upon with Lady Goddess, nor would it betray the promise he had made to Augustine all those years ago.
Therefore, he looked forward to Angel's arrival bringing the wind of a new world to this old land riddled with chronic ailments. A gentle breeze, Soft Breeze, even a Hurricane or a gale—any of them would do. As long as it could blow in, it would be a success.
"How far will you go?" Wise Sovereign murmured softly. His gaze turned toward the distance, his eyes profound and faraway, as though they pierced through layer upon layer of barriers to watch Angel advance here step by step.
Suddenly, the flames in the fireplace trembled.
Wise Sovereign withdrew his gaze and watched the flames quietly. His brows drew together for a moment, then slowly relaxed.
He closed his eyes and immersed himself for several seconds. When he opened them
