Whether in records on the Holographic Tablet or in the scripts and stage plays created across the Southern Region, any melodramatic scene involving romance always had that classic line:
—Even if you gain my body, you will never gain my heart. Then was then, as now is now.
When Behemoth said, "All I can offer is my willing self," that classic line immediately came to Angel's mind.
Unfortunately, the Behemoth before him was not some abused woman from a storybook, but merely a furry little mouse.
And a male mouse at that.
Though the line sounded familiar and rather funny, from a practical standpoint, Behemoth had indeed offered the greatest price it could.
It possessed nothing in the first place and had nothing else to give.
The only thing it could offer—and the thing Luigi valued most—was that head of Behemoth's, seemingly capable of rivaling Pifeifei's. Its intelligence, and its inspiration.
But Behemoth's head was attached to its neck. Even if they bought it, there was nothing they could do if it refused to cooperate. Just like before: although Zigua and the Merchants' Guild behind him had obtained Behemoth, it had kept playing dumb, and they had been helpless against it. In the end, they could only sell it off cheaply.
Only if Behemoth were willing to cooperate sincerely and put its extraordinary intelligence and inspiration to use could they truly be said to have obtained it.
Otherwise, it would merely be a useless empty shell.
Thus, the price Behemoth was willing to pay was actually quite good.
At least, in Luigi's view, it was entirely acceptable. After all, spending just two Crystal Cores to buy Nakbi in exchange for a willing Behemoth was an absolute bargain.
However, Behemoth was speaking to Angel now, so its gaze remained fixed on
