Before long, Angel and the others arrived at the southeastern corner where the investigators gathered.
Looking at the dense crowd of hurried investigators in windbreakers of every color ahead, Angel turned to Luigi. "Did Gleipnir say how to identify direct investigators?"
Luigi hesitated. "She did, but it might as well have been nothing."
Angel: "???"
After Luigi explained, Angel understood what he meant.
He said that because Gleipnir had clearly stated that direct investigators carried tokens corresponding to their butlers, and those tokens would definitely bear patterns representing the butlers' identities.
For instance, the Ghost Butler's token would feature images of various Mirror Ghosts.
Likewise, the Hound Butler's token would most likely feature canine animals.
That made it sound as though distinguishing direct investigators would not be difficult, but the reality was different. Butler tokens were not fixed. Some might be relatively commonplace mirrors, while others could be brooches, rings, earrings... and so on. Some tokens were even simply printed as emblems upon their clothing and accessories.
The tokens came in every shape and form, too numerous to list. This created a problem: not every token could be displayed openly.
The butlers did not force their investigators to keep their tokens on display, so generally speaking, investigators stored them in their own spaces and only took them out when they needed to show them.
Thus, they could identify the corresponding butler by the pattern on a token—but only if that investigator had the token out in the open.
"At a glance... I don't see a single token," Angel silently said through the Mind Tether.
Luigi nodded as well. He was carefully observing those hurried investigators. They were all dressed sharply and stylishly, yet not one so-called token was in sight.
Just as Angel and Luigi were becoming dazzled by the
