Although Vera was intensely curious about the story that might lie behind Angel's identity as a "wizard," after wrestling with it again and again, she ultimately gave up on that curiosity that would only sprout extra branches.
She should ask the question she cared about most first.
With that thought, Vera said gravely, "What is the reason you, or the organization behind you, investigated Alfred?"
Angel said, "Are you sure that's your second question?"
Vera nodded.
Angel shrugged. "Because we were looking for the Dark Corner Entrance."
Vera frowned deeply. "Are you fooling me?"
"I'm not." Angel said, "The reason is that simple."
"I asked for the cause and reason. At the very least, you should explain both."
Angel said, "That's two questions rolled into one."
Vera said, "But you didn't object just now."
Angel silently glanced at Vera before finally saying, "Fine, I wasn't listening carefully that time. The cause and reason, huh..."
"Because of certain reasons that cannot be disclosed for now." Angel paused and pointed upward, implying that this had nothing to do with him, but involved higher-ups. If Vera was curious, she could spend a question to ask.
"...we decided to go to the Dark Corner." Angel said, "In order to find the Dark Corner Entrance, we went to great lengths and eventually narrowed it down to one person."
"Sisley."
Angel did not explain Sisley's identity, because he believed Vera certainly knew who he was.
Sure enough, Vera murmured, "The head of Yaxixi Circus, Sisley Nickelson?"
Angel nodded. "Yes."
"We learned a great deal of interesting intelligence from Sisley, but none of it had much to do with the Dark Corner Entrance, until Sisley told us something. I believe Lady Vera should know about this matter as well—the matter of the former Noble Knight."
