After passing through the short Art Corridor, the Rabbit Hole group arrived at the Mimetic Corridor.
What was a Mimetic Corridor?
Just as the Art Corridor had been filled with works of art, this corridor was filled with shapes built from books.
To Angel's left, for instance, was a "cat" made from 208 books of varying thicknesses.
To his right was a "ship" assembled from 133 books.
The Mimetic Corridor stretched beyond sight, with another book-built shape every few steps. The name fit.
"Is the Book Demon here?" Rabbit Girl asked curiously.
Angel nodded. "Unless something's changed, it's hiding behind one of these book sculptures."
Everyone looked down the long, dim corridor, wondering which shape concealed the Book Demon.
"Stay here. I'll go meet it."
With that, Angel prepared to head forward alone.
Rabbit Girl spoke up. "How about I take on the first Book Demon challenge?"
Gabriel raised a feeler. "I could go too..."
Gray Porcelain quietly poked its head out from behind Gabriel. It had only wanted to see what was happening, not volunteer, but now that the leader and Gabriel had spoken, staying silent felt wrong...
Gray Porcelain gritted its teeth. "I..."
Before it could finish, Angel said, "Gray Porcelain doesn't need to go. You might not be strong enough to handle the Book Demon."
Gray Porcelain's eyes lit up, though it put on a disappointed look. "I'd feel bad about that."
Despite its words, it wasted no time ducking back behind Gabriel and hiding completely.
Angel paid it no mind. "I understand how you feel, but don't fight over this first challenge."
"I'll test the waters and see what the Book Demon can do and how difficult the challenge is."
