Kemei froze at those words, and a layer of gloom slowly rose in his eyes.
Naturally, he understood what Angel meant.
"Gone home" did not mean he had awakened. It meant he had failed to endure the Whispering Curse... and died.

Angel said, "Keep moving forward. Darkman, Bulko, and Rebecca will be waiting for you outside."
"I imagine they are also eagerly awaiting news of your triumphant return."
Kemei nodded. No longer immersing himself in Darkman's elimination, he turned and walked into the dim forest shrouded in mist.

Perhaps Darkman truly had a chance of uncovering the truth behind the "singing," perhaps even breaking through the illusion created by the Whispering Curse and returning to reality.
But to his surprise, Darkman had died as well.
Even so, Darkman had lasted far longer than the other two, and the information he had obtained within the illusion must have been much greater than what Bulko and Rebecca had gathered.
