The Soft-State Worm corpse he had seen earlier was still in the nest.
This Soft-State Worm was not a Shapeshifting Softworm. It was plump, pale, and looked very fluffy. Yet when Angel gave it a slight squeeze, he discovered that only a layer of skin remained; all the liquid inside had been sucked dry by the Dreamweaver Ants.
Though it was already dead, this Soft-State Worm at least allowed him to roughly infer that, if the other insect eggs received more nourishment from essence blood, they might well hatch too.
Angel took out the insect nest because he had decided to record the changes in the Soft-State Worm eggs soaked in Axo's essence blood.
He took out a small cup of Axo's essence blood and poured it over the eggs, then placed the nest on his desk so he could observe and record it at any time.
However, to prevent the eggs from hatching without his knowledge, Angel set up an illusion near the nest, ensuring nothing could go wrong.
Once he had finished dealing with the nest, Angel suddenly raised his head and looked out the window.
Outside was pitch-black. Only by the glow of distant oil lamps could he make out the swaying shadows of trees.
Angel walked to the window and opened it. The cool night wind immediately swept into the room. The cold gust made him frown, but there was nothing outside, nothing like what he had imagined.
Earlier, he had sensed what seemed to be a gaze spying on him. It had been a sudden intuition, which was why he had abruptly looked outside.
Though he had seen nothing, Angel had never believed in arrows fired without a target.
With that person's abilities, spying on me without being discovered would not be difficult. Angel mused.
