Background / History
Sanders was born into a mortal noble family, whose crest depicted a winged sword piercing a thorn rose and whose motto was, “Roses Never Fade, Glory Endures Forever.” His Thorn Rose Dagger remained a memento after he entered the Wizarding World. Before becoming a Formal Witch, he was an unaffiliated apprentice who survived through relentless work, opportunity-seeking, and repeated brushes with death. 102
As a Savage Caves Witch, Sanders became deeply involved with the Nightmare Realm. He proposed the term “Nightmare Realm” as a conceptual framework and later formally established a long-term research subject on its biological projection characteristics, with Angel as a participant. 273 286
He encountered Angel at the Barbie Restaurant after detecting the youth’s unusual Nightmare-related talent. Recognizing Angel’s potential, Sanders offered to personally teach him and promised a Rune Scroll that could preserve Jon’s life if Angel failed to save him within five years. Angel accepted the apprenticeship. 40 42
Sanders’ shadow is a continuing source of instability. Under emotional strain, it manifests as a sinister, younger version of himself with crimson eyes; Sanders has repeatedly suppressed it when it attempts to act independently. The Black Earl later revealed that this “other Sanders” is the one capable of perfectly using Sanders’ illusion-moving technique. 320 445 2594
Appearance
Sanders presents himself as an impeccably dressed, old-fashioned nobleman: handsome despite traces of age, distant in bearing, and meticulously elegant in every gesture. 40
- Short, curly gray-green hair and deep brown eyes. 40 42
- Usually wears a low-brimmed black hat, dark formal suit, white gloves, and a black cane. 40 660
- Has worn gold single-sided glasses and, after an injury in the Nightmare Realm, an eyepatch concealed beneath his hat. 40 660
- His right arm can transform into the curved scythe arm of a Phantom Mantis. 550
Personality
Sanders is composed, aristocratic, and intensely private. He generally treats outsiders’ suffering as irrelevant unless it intersects with his interests, as shown when he rescued Boku only after securing sixteen drops of Constant Debris in exchange. 64 65
His pursuit of Truth outweighs sentiment, convention, and even personal safety. New knowledge—especially knowledge from the Nightmare Realm, the Origin World, or unfamiliar power systems—consistently excites him more than material reward. 1012 1309 1906
Despite this detachment, Sanders is fiercely protective of Angel. He reacted violently to the belief that Bogula had refined Angel into a Magic Doll, confronted Bogula directly, and later risked an untested Nightmare technique to reach Angel at the Void Colossus Tower. 445 446 1148
As a mentor, he is demanding but attentive. He teaches Angel foundational theory, tests his growth through combat, protects his secrets when necessary, and deliberately leaves room for Angel to form independent conclusions rather than imposing his own path. 56 1339 1440
Abilities & Skills
Illusionary Techniques
Sanders is an elite Illusion System Witch whose illusions can deceive senses, imprison opponents, impose psychological suggestions, and support interrogation. 446 1307 2134
- Trapped Bogula in a profound illusion during their confrontation in Sky Mechanical City. 446
- Used Illusionary Hypnosis to investigate Rolando’s divided psyche, then employed the Dream Wilderness to isolate his personalities. 1307 1308
- Identified and bypassed illusionary psychological suggestions embedded in a false crossroads. 2134
- Can rapidly create and alter illusionary environments while retaining a calm, analytical approach to their weaknesses. 456 1339
Nightmare Decoy Techniques
Sanders can use Nightmare entities as substitutes to evade danger or traverse otherwise inaccessible spaces. 64 1148
- Nightmare Decoy — substituted a Nightmare for Boku within a spatial rift, allowing Boku to be extracted safely. 64
- Silhouette Nightmare Decoy — used an untested, high-risk variant to reach the Void Colossus Tower and aid Angel. 1148
- The Silhouette technique imposes severe strain: its first combat use left Sanders bleeding, sweating, and rapidly depleted while he calculated a path through chaotic energy. 1148
Shadow Doppelgänger
A younger, sinister Sanders can emerge from his body as an independent shadow-like double. 320
- The duplicate has darker skin, black sclera, blood-red pupils, and a notably more sinister presence than Sanders himself. 320
- It has acted separately from Sanders, including repairing a passage while Sanders was simultaneously elsewhere. 320
- The shadow becomes more active during Sanders’ emotional instability and can be forcibly suppressed by him. 445 446
- Its connection to Sanders’ illusion-moving technique remains dangerous; the duplicate is reportedly its perfect user. 2594
Bloodline Modification
Sanders has extensively modified his own body for research and combat. 550
- His right arm is transplanted from a Phantom Mantis and can become a crescent-shaped scythe blade. 550
- He has transplanted additional organs, including unsightly ones, to study their potential and limitations. 550
- He views bodily alteration as a research opportunity rather than an irreversible loss, a perspective he uses to guide Angel regarding the Projected Bloodline. 550 883
Combat Prowess
Sanders’ combat power is feared throughout the Southern Region. 124 976
- Defeated Bogula, another Rank 2 Witch, almost instantly without employing Illusionary Techniques. 446
- Casually deflected a Greatsword Knight’s powerful attack with his cane upon arriving at the Abyss front lines. 976
- Can instantly cast spells through extensive knowledge and mastery rather than relying solely on solidified spell models. 64
- Overwhelmed Angel in close combat while using no apparent energy, despite Angel’s soul-form abilities and increased confidence. 671
Nightmare Realm Research
Sanders is one of the Wizarding World’s foremost researchers of Nightmare Realm phenomena. 273 286
- Proposed the concept of the “Nightmare Realm” and distinguishes it from ordinary physical space. 273
- Studies projection phenomena, Nightmare Aura, biological projections, and the boundary between reality and illusion. 104 286
- Designed experiments to test Angel’s Nightmare Soul Body and its ability to move between reality and illusion. 536
- Continues entering the Nightmare Realm despite serious injuries, memory shielding, and recurring physical abnormalities. 660 1469
Energy Selection and the Dream Wilderness
After acquiring the Energy Selection Authority, Sanders became a principal architect of the Dream Wilderness’ energy infrastructure. 1904 1905
- Can construct and adjust energy systems according to an Authority bearer’s capacity. 1905
- Established the initial Magic Power System framework, allowing Primal Magic Power and Virtual Magic Power to manifest in the Dream Wilderness. 1908 1909
- Sees the Dream Wilderness as more than a research convenience, holding broader expectations for its future development. 1906
- Uses his knowledge of the Wizarding World’s universal magic system to build a system that can accommodate diverse supernatural powers. 1905
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black cane — his signature focus; has released a Nightmare warhorse and supported rapid spellcasting. 40 64
- Thorn Rose Dagger — a mortal family heirloom bearing the Iguro crest and family motto. 102
- Gravity Garden — Sanders’ personal world and open-air library, used as a residence, research space, and place to receive Angel. 448 449

Relationships
- Angel — disciple. Sanders recruited Angel for his extraordinary Nightmare-related potential, then became a demanding but protective mentor and collaborator in Nightmare Realm and Dream Wilderness research. 42 536 1440
- Flora — disciple. Sanders directs her in Savage Caves affairs and later requires Spivey to become her disciple through the Hendra Oath. 27 617
- Greya — long-standing acquaintance and frequent ally. Their relationship includes mutual caution, shared operations, and frank discussion of Sanders’ worsening shadow condition. 40 648
- Kant — old friend and fellow high-ranking Witch. Kant repeatedly intervenes when Sanders’ shadow instability or anger risks escalating into disaster. 445 446 760
- Spivey — former “Little Demon” Grack. Sanders arranged for Spivey’s rebirth into a young body, then compelled him to begin anew within Flora’s line through the Hendra Oath. 617
- Nis — old friend and Soul System contact. Sanders sought Nis’ knowledge regarding Angel’s Rhombus Crystal and Inheritable Soul Skill. 660 661
- Bogula — adversary. Sanders nearly killed him after believing Angel had been refined into a Magic Doll. 445 446
- Rolando — prisoner and bargaining target. Sanders used Dream Wilderness methods, hypnosis, and negotiation to separate Rolando’s personalities and secure his cooperation. 1307 1310 1312
