Connie leaped with all his strength, narrowly dodging the Titan's hand. However, the grappling hook he fired bounced straight off the wall.
Jean happened to be nearby. He fired his grappling hook, slashing the Titan's finger and successfully drawing its attention toward himself.
"Get out of here, Connie!"
Jean immediately turned and ran. "I don't want anyone else dying because of my mistakes."
He ran around a corner and was about to use his Omni-Directional Mobility Gear to escape. Seeing that the Titan was still some distance away, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But when he pressed the firing button, the grappling hook failed to launch. The hook launcher on his Omni-Directional Mobility Gear had malfunctioned at that moment...
Jean realized something was wrong. "Damn it, a malfunction at a time like this?"
While he continued trying to adjust the launcher, the distant Titan had already closed in.
It was close enough to reach him with a single lunge, and its enormous hand slammed down toward Jean.
Meanwhile, Annie and Connie had both safely reached the wall. Yet Jean was still running through the streets inside the town.
"Jean! What's wrong with him? Why isn't he using his Omni-Directional Mobility Gear? Did his equipment malfunction?"
Jean kept his head down and ran. "I'll find a way to fix it."
Muttering to himself, he ran into a narrow alley between several houses, then hid beneath the window of one room.
Jean's Omni-Directional Mobility Gear had malfunctioned. This accident greatly reduced his chances of survival, but he was not the type to wait helplessly for death.
So he planned to hide for now and wait for a suitable opportunity to escape.
"Damn it, how could I drag them down?" He peeked over the edge of the window at the approaching
