October 2, Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid.
In the second round of the Champions League Group Stage, Real Madrid hosted Denmark's Copenhagen.
The Galácticos once again fielded a two-forward formation at home, switching to a 3-5-2. Marcelo and Danilo occupied the wings, while Vermaelen, Javi Martínez, and Ramos formed the back line. The midfield consisted of David Silva, Illarramendi, and Modrić, with Yang Yang and Suarez forming the front two.
Since their opponents were relatively weak, Real Madrid focused on attacking once again. David Silva and Modrić played farther forward, essentially functioning as two attacking midfielders.
After the match began, the two flanks, freed to attack, became highly active. Marcelo's left flank was especially dangerous, repeatedly creating threats and pinning Copenhagen inside their own half, leaving them powerless to fight back.
In the twenty-first minute, Marcelo crossed from the left into the penalty area. Copenhagen goalkeeper Viland hurriedly rushed off his line, but failed to touch the ball. It sailed over him and dropped toward the far post. Yang Yang quickly charged forward and arrived just in time, gently glancing the ball with a close-range header and sending it straight into the empty net. One-nil.
Copenhagen did not manage their first shot of the match until the thirty-third minute. That alone showed how miserable the Danes' situation on the pitch had been.
After the teams switched sides for the second half, Suarez dropped back to receive Danilo's pass. The two combined on the right wing, after which Suarez crossed from the right side of the penalty area. Yang Yang followed up through the middle and glanced the ball into the Copenhagen goal with another header.
A brace!
Two goals, both headers!
The entire Bernabéu Stadium was wildly shouting Yang Yang's name, urging him to score one more.
But after completing his brace,
