The night of October 23, at Madrid's Bernabéu Stadium.
The third round of the Champions League Group Stage saw Real Madrid host Juventus.
The match had barely begun, yet Real Madrid were already playing with great energy.
Hazard, Yang Yang, and Robben's Trident darted around the front line, covering a wide area. The midfield trio of David Silva, Modrić, and Mascherano also helped Real Madrid firmly control the middle of the pitch. At the back, Ancelotti had opted for the Spanish center-back pairing of Javi Martínez and Ramos this time.
One important reason was that Ancelotti wanted to use Javi Martínez to restrain Llorente.
Both players had come through Athletic Bilbao and had been teammates for years, so they knew each other very well. Moreover, Javi Martínez was currently Real Madrid's tallest player apart from the goalkeeper, making him the perfect choice to freeze Llorente.
Real Madrid made a smooth start. Marcelo and Carvajal were both highly active on the wings, and with the team successfully taking control of the midfield and possession, Juventus were forced to retreat from the opening whistle.
After just four minutes, Real Madrid created an opportunity down the right side of the attack.
Modrić sent the ball out to the right wing for Carvajal, who had surged forward from behind.
Robben had already run toward the center. After controlling the ball, Carvajal cut past his marker and immediately crossed it horizontally to Robben.
Yang Yang had just begun running out of the penalty area and raised his right hand for the ball. The gesture deceived Juventus's two center-backs, Chiellini and Barzagli. Both pushed forward at the same time, afraid that Yang Yang and Robben would combine.
But as soon as Robben received Carvajal's pass, he cut inward, slipped past Pirlo, and sent a through ball
