Choose a Day to Ascend was based on a premise: In a sealed cultivation world, with no path to rise—or only limited paths to rise—and with cultivators possessing limited lifespans and limited strength, what stories would unfold among them as they fought over limited resources and limited paths to ascension?
This was destined to be a world of extreme involution.
In this world of extreme involution, there was ultimate evil, countless schemes, and all manner of traps. People treated others as crops, harvesting them, or as fish, raising them up and then reeling them in.
Cultivators would be planted like crops and harvested when they ripened. They would be raised like fish, then caught and eaten once they grew large enough.
Yet in such a world of extreme involution, there would inevitably be people who broke free from the constraints of harvesting and fishing, resisting the anglers and reapers of this world, opposing this unfair ascension system, and daring to raise a blade against the upper realm.
Such people were heroes.
But in this world of ultimate involution, heroes absolutely could not survive.
Those who survived were inevitably not heroes.
The one who survived was sly, calm, shameless, capable of bending and stretching, able to kneel before his enemies and acknowledge a traitor as his father.
He could also mingle with his enemies, only to fight them to pieces afterward.
Xu Ying was a Snake Catcher, but he had not been such a person at first. In the beginning, he had been a pure-hearted Snake Catcher with little guile.
But the death of another Snake Catcher made him realize that he had to become such a person.
And so, the story of Choose a Day to Ascend came to be.
This was not
