Background / History

Xu Ying's memories and identity have been repeatedly altered. In the life known to the villagers of Matoupo Village, Xu Jin hauled a breathing child from the Yuan River, and he and his wife Lu Si adopted him. Xu Ying grew into a tanned, broad-framed fisherman after seven years on the river. This history was later complicated when powerful cultivators sealed his memories and removed him from his adoptive family. 120

His recovered memories reveal an existence spanning more than forty-eight thousand years. He remembers living during the Great Shang as a wealthy merchant, freeing the slave Yan Bao'er, rebelling against the Heavenly Gods, and searching across centuries for her reincarnation alongside Jin Buyi. 170 Other memories identify a past incarnation with Qing Xuan, the master of Wei Xu. 561

After the Emperor Lord sealed his first life's memories, Xu Ying's True Spirit generated countless short-lived reincarnations. Many of these lives ended in childhood, with their ageless bodies harvested by Qi Refiners as longevity medicine. Among the exceptions were the life he spent with Yan Bao'er for more than five thousand years and the life in which he reached the Ascension Stage. 656

He eventually regains his father, Xu Jing, and learns that his mother is Lan Suying. Their reunion drives him to investigate the Xu family's ancestral methods, which may have evolved from ancient Immortal Methods of the Ancestral Court. 485 486

Appearance

Xu Ying is a broad-framed youth who appears tall and lean. Years spent fishing with Xu Jin left his skin tanned. 120

  • A faint lightning-shaped mark can appear on his brow when his memory seal weakens. 122
  • His Blood Essence can manifest the Elephant King Divine Body behind him in combat. 28
  • His physical body has been repeatedly strengthened through Blood Essence, Martial Dao, Qi of Creation, and the Immaculate Golden Body. 178 557

Personality

Xu Ying is direct, curious, and unusually willing to learn from any viable path. He studies opponents' techniques for weaknesses, teaches what he discovers to companions, and seeks to combine rather than reject Qi Refining, Nuo Art, Martial Dao, Heavenly Dao Runes, and foreign Dao systems. 9 24 184

He is compassionate toward people suffering under predatory systems, intervening against soul collectors and protecting allies in battle. However, he is also fiercely retaliatory when pursued, manipulated, or attacked; he openly declares that he will not be bullied and frequently answers hostility with overwhelming force. 99 493

His memories create an ongoing conflict between the ordinary life of the “snake catcher” Xu Ying and the grander, more ruthless identities of his past. He ultimately insists that the memories and relationships of his present life have value in their own right, particularly Yuan Weiyang's life with him. 519 531

Abilities & Skills

Taiyi Cultivation

Xu Ying's foundational method is the Xu family's Taiyi lineage. The Taiyi Guiding Technique enabled his earliest rapid progress, while his later Taiyi Undying True Scripture expands the original Taiyi Innate Technique with his own insights.

  • Uses internal observation to heal the five viscera and refine their Qi into primal Qi. 16
  • Created the Taiyi Undying True Scripture after comprehending the Indestructible True Spirit. 515
  • Opened the Taiyi Cave Heaven and connected it to the Taiyi Cave Abyss for a vast source of Dao power. 515
  • The original Taiyi Innate Technique was primarily a mental cultivation method and lacked divine abilities or Nuo Arts. 515

Six Secrets Ancestral Method

Xu Ying cultivates the six Secret Treasures of the human body as internal sources of energy and as a bridge between Qi Refining and Nuo Art.

  • The Secret Treasures function like portable blessed lands that continuously supply energy for Qi Refiner cultivation. 109
  • Can unify the Six Secrets Ancestral Method with the Taiyi Innate Technique. 364
  • Fully opening the Six Great Cave Heavens can multiply his strength by more than tenfold. 478
  • His original Cave Heavens and Dao Scenes can be severed or stolen, leaving him drastically weakened until he reclaims or rebuilds them. 656 698

Martial Dao

Xu Ying's Martial Dao is a personally forged path centered on Blood Essence, fighting intent, and the unity of body, spirit, and will.

  • Learned the Eight Techniques of the God of War with extraordinary speed and later derived further techniques from them. 190 249
  • Can transform martial techniques into Dao manifestations, including the Other Shore Seal Art. 258
  • His Martial Dao Ultimate Intent produces numerous phantom Xu Yings performing distinct attacks simultaneously. 686 710
  • His Martial Dao remains unaffected by Dao Sheng Zi's Reincarnation Divine Ability because it was built through Xu Ying's own effort. 812

Heavenly Dao Runes and Divine Abilities

Xu Ying possesses an exceptional instinct for Heavenly Dao Runes and can identify flaws in their construction.

  • Understands Heavenly Dao Runes at a glance because he studied them in Kunlun as a child. 275
  • Can combine runes into powerful Heavenly Dao divine abilities. 185
  • Used his superior understanding of Heavenly Dao to defeat the divine being Chong Xiao. 308
  • Even when he understood the runes sealing his Mystic Pass, his Qi Gathering cultivation initially lacked the power to break them. 193

Reincarnation and Karma

Xu Ying uses Reincarnation and Karma as high-level combat arts.

  • Escapes pursuit through a Reincarnation Divine Ability and can split into separate Primordial Spirits to mislead enemies. 710
  • Countered Dao Sheng Zi's Reincarnation Divine Ability with a Karma arrow. 812
  • Can exploit karma threads connected to an opponent's actions and divine abilities. 561
  • His reincarnation-based existence creates innumerable past selves, but he later begins unifying those chaotic states. 656 1031

Immaculate Golden Body

The Immaculate Golden Body, also called the Victorious Fighting Method, refines Xu Ying's body through Daoist sounds rather than a separate circulation method.

  • Refines foreign energy, Qi of Creation, and the Ten Scenes of Great Luo into his own physical strength. 557
  • Can operate alongside the Taiyi Undying True Scripture without conflict. 557
  • Lets him absorb and refine exceptionally dangerous dragon qi and fierce aura. 568
  • Does not fully replicate the Nine Revolutions Profound Technique's trinity of body, Primordial Spirit, and Dao Field. 557

Chaos and New Dao

Xu Ying develops power through Chaos, Spiritual Patterns, and the New Dao rather than relying solely on the Other Shore's Principle Script.

  • His Chaos Lotus can absorb Chaos Dao Scenes and Primordial Chaos Qi, rapidly increasing his Chaos Great Dao attainments. 763
  • Became the Chaos Lord and began following the Path to the End of Dao of previous Chaos Lords. 997
  • Teaches and promotes New Dao, New Dragon Patterns, and New Heavenly Dao among the Dragon Clan and the Three Realms. 738 795
  • Uses the Hong Yuan Reverse Proof Great Dao Record to cycle his Innate Great Daos. 857

  • Immortal Emperor Supreme Being — Principal architect of Xu Ying's repeated repression and harvesting; strips Xu Ying's realms and Dao Scenes, only for Xu Ying to later reclaim power from within them. 656 698
