Arc 10The Plague on Lor Island

Maud’s crew treated Lor Island’s plague while Fujitora, Doflamingo, Kuma, and Aokiji became involved in their affairs. After the plague was eradicated, Maud left the island with Luo and Lafitte to pursue a destination tied to the Shichibukai position and test whether Luo could transfer Baby-5’s Devil Fruit power into a pineapple.

  • The Marines raised Maud’s bounty to 360 million Beli, and Maud’s crew went to plague-stricken Lor Island, where Luo began treating patients and Maud rescued Philo from a village mob.
  • Maud’s crew treated villages across the island, but Fujitora confronted them, and he stopped Doflamingo from killing Maud and later fought Doflamingo while Maud wounded him as he fled.
  • Fujitora and Commodore Serves learned that Maud’s crew was helping the islanders, so they allowed the treatment to continue, while Kuma arrived to observe the plague work.
  • Maud and Lafitte used Fujitora’s protection to hunt bounty seekers, and Maud defeated Vice Admiral Momonga before Aokiji arrived and ordered the Marines to leave the crew alone.
  • Aokiji joined Maud’s feast with the Heart Pirates, questioned him about his future, and left without confronting the Marines nearby.
  • Maud asked Kuma to help remove the virus, and the plague was eradicated within days.
  • Maud left Lor Island aboard the Netherworld with Luo and Lafitte, then prepared to test whether Luo could transfer Baby-5’s Weapon-Weapon Fruit power into a pineapple.
Chapters 227–251 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 227Burn It All

The Marines finalized the Maud Pirates’ bounties, prompting Sengoku and Garp to discuss the crew’s threat and investigate Jaya’s identity. As Maud’s fame spread, Cavendish grew furious at being overshadowed and ordered his pirates to burn every newspaper in a nearby town; the chapter ended with an old man examining two bounty posters at a Sabaody Archipelago tavern.

  • The Marines set Maud’s bounty at 360 million Beli and gave Jaya a 30-million-Beli bounty, leading Garp and Sengoku to suspect Jaya was connected to Gaban and request an identity investigation.
  • Sengoku and Garp considered the Maud Pirates’ combined bounties of 560,010,000 Beli and worried the rookie crew would cause serious trouble.
  • Pirates across the world reacted to Maud’s glowing newspaper coverage and his jump from a 100-million to a 360-million-Beli bounty.
  • Cavendish blamed Maud’s rise on a setup, burned Maud’s bounty poster and a newspaper, then ordered his crew to attack a town and destroy every newspaper there.
  • At a Sabaody Archipelago tavern, a white-haired old man studied two bounty posters while a young woman stood behind the bar.

Ch. 228I Really Want to Meet Them Soon

Rayleigh and Shakky discussed Maud and Jaya’s bounties, while Doflamingo reacted furiously to news and the Red-Haired Pirates received a letter from Maud for Yasopp. Yasopp celebrated the letter’s arrival, and Shanks wondered what choice Maud would make after reaching the New World.

  • Rayleigh told Shakky he wanted to meet Maud and Jaya, and Hachi arrived and recognized Maud’s bounty poster as the Ghost Gun.
  • Doflamingo shattered a glass, received news over a Den Den Mushi, and announced that he was going out despite an officer’s offer to accompany him.
  • On a Winter Island, Shanks and the Red-Haired Pirates learned that a News Coo had brought Yasopp a letter from Maud, ghostwritten by Dede Turkey.
  • Yasopp read the letter, concealed its contents, and celebrated by pouring liquor down the News Coo’s beak.
  • Shanks looked at Maud’s new bounty poster and wondered what Maud would choose when he reached the New World.

Ch. 229Training Plan

Maud and his crew sailed to Lor Island, where Luo hoped to reunite with his crew and address a devastating plague. As Maud proposed using the outbreak to train Luo, they reached a village and found its people preparing to burn a masked person alive.

  • Bepo revealed that his bounty was 200 Beli, leaving Beli bitter about his own 10 Beli bounty.
  • Maud and Luo discussed traveling to Lor Island, where a plague threatened to destroy the island.
  • Maud suggested that Luo use the plague as a training opportunity to improve his Op-Op Fruit ability’s precision and endurance.
  • The Netherworld docked at Lor Island, and Maud’s group put on protective suits made by Luo before heading toward a village.
  • Maud’s group found villagers preparing to burn a person in a crow-shaped mask, and Luo called the villagers foolish.

Ch. 230A Special Fondness

Maud rescued a Plague Doctor from the islanders of Lor Island, who planned to burn her because they feared crows. As Luo examined the infected woman and Lafitte moved to handle the angry crowd, she described the disease before collapsing again.

  • Luo explained that the Lor Islanders viewed crows as omens and had mistaken the Plague Doctor for a source of misfortune.
  • Jaya asked if the Plague Doctor could be saved, but Maud disappeared and used Silent Step to rescue her from the fire.
  • Maud admired the Crow Mask and told Luo that pirates could force treatment on patients who refused to cooperate.
  • Luo used Room to examine the Plague Doctor, determined that she was infected, and began preparing to treat her.
  • Maud sent Lafitte to hypnotize the enraged islanders, while the Plague Doctor rose and described the disease before collapsing.

Ch. 231Philo (4,700 Words, Combined Chapter)

Luo used the Op-Op Fruit to cure Philo of the plague on Lor Island, and the crew discovered that her Crow Mask changed her personality. As Maud’s group remained in the village, Commodore Serves arrived with supplies and learned that the Maud Pirates were on the island.

  • Maud’s group entered the village with the hypnotized villagers and settled in an empty house, where Luo treated the unconscious woman with his Op-Op Fruit.
  • The woman woke up cured and introduced herself as Philo, then showed a shy personality without her Crow Mask and a bold, talkative one while wearing it.
  • Luo told Philo he would take over the plague, but Maud’s group stayed with her after Beli removed her mask and revealed its effect on her personality.
  • Commodore Serves arrived near Lor Island with supplies and asked after Doctor Philo.
  • A marine lookout spotted the Maud Pirates’ ship beneath the cliffs west of Lor Island, alarming Serves and his crew.

Ch. 232Mr. Issho

Serves avoided confronting the Maud Pirates on Lor Island and arranged to deliver supplies while seeking help from Mr. Issho. The chapter left Serves weighing whether to ask Issho to fight the pirates as Philo watched Maud and the others in a village.

Luo exhausted himself performing high-intensity surgeries until he eradicated the plague in one village, then Maud's group traveled to another village to continue treating the outbreak. Meanwhile, Serves learned that the Maud Pirates were helping the villagers and that Philo had joined them, and Maud received a call on his Den Den Mushi.

  • Philo watched Lafitte hypnotize villagers and pressed him to let her observe Luo's treatment, but Lafitte told her to stay inside because villagers were hostile toward her Crow Mask.
  • Luo spent more than an hour operating on a critically ill patient, then continued treating patients despite his exhaustion to improve his abilities and keep pace with Maud.
  • Maud, Beli, and Bepo brought beasts for Jaya's nutritional meals, while the group continued its coordinated efforts to treat the village's plague.
  • After a week of relentless surgeries, Luo eradicated the plague in the village, and Maud's group departed for another of the island's eight infected villages with Philo accompanying them.
  • Serves heard that the Maud Pirates were treating villagers and that Philo was with them, while Maud received a call on his wristwatch-style Den Den Mushi.

Ch. 236Fujitora? That's Not Bad Either

Maud and his companions fled the island, but Fujitora caught up and attacked them with a devastating Gravity Slash. Philo remained unharmed and angrily protested as the pirates were blasted away.

  • Maud warned Philo that following the group would put her in danger, but she continued after them.
  • Beli spotted Fujitora riding a flying stone, and Maud revealed that the Marine's strength rivaled an admiral's.
  • Maud stopped to cover the others' retreat, but Jaya, Lafitte, Luo, and Bepo all stopped to face Fujitora with him.

  • Philo rushed forward to defend the pirates, but Fujitora unleashed Gravity Slash: Tiger and blasted Maud's group away while leaving her untouched.
  • Fujitora said he would decide for himself whether the pirates were bad people, and Philo angrily insisted that they were not.

Ch. 237You Guys Are Really Something

Philo tried to stop Issho from attacking the Maud Pirates, but he restrained her and fought Maud, Jaya, and Lafitte. After Luo used Room to rescue Maud and Lafitte, Issho summoned a meteor that began falling toward the crew.

  • Philo defended the Maud Pirates and blocked Issho, who used gravity to immobilize her before continuing toward them.
  • Maud attacked Issho, but Issho read his movements and crushed his stance with the Gravity-Gravity Fruit.
  • Jaya and Lafitte attacked to help Maud, while Issho defeated their assaults with gravity and his sword.
  • Lafitte drew Issho's attention, allowing Luo to use Room to switch him and Maud out of the gravity's reach.
  • Issho praised the crew and summoned a meteor, while a figure wearing red sunglasses spotted it falling from the sky.

Ch. 238The Sense of Powerlessness

Maud and his allies survived Fujitora’s meteorite and felt the overwhelming gap between their strength and an admiral’s. Doflamingo arrived with a surprise attack, but Fujitora stopped it and declared that he did not regard Maud’s group as enemies.

  • Maud, Jaya, and Lafitte split Fujitora’s meteorite into four pieces, and Luo used Shambles to remove their impact before they hit the ground.
  • Maud questioned whether Fujitora was holding back, but Fujitora pressed the group down with Hell Journey, leaving Maud painfully aware of their weakness against an admiral.
  • Fujitora sensed Maud’s frustration and approached without attacking, then detected Doflamingo’s Overheat threads aimed at Maud’s heart.
  • Fujitora crushed Doflamingo’s threads with gravity before they could strike Maud.
  • Doflamingo confronted Fujitora, who calmly said he did not regard Maud and the others as enemies.

Ch. 239Unafraid Because He Had Something to Rely On

Issho intervened to stop Doflamingo from attacking Maud, then released his gravity field after Maud promised not to flee. Maud tried to persuade Issho to help defeat Doflamingo, but when Issho refused, Maud immediately shot at Doflamingo.

  • Doflamingo attacked Maud with Five-Color String, and Issho forced the attack into the ground with his gravity power.

Ch. 240Each Made Their Own Concessions

Doflamingo attacked Maud and his crew with his awakened String-String Fruit, but Issho intervened and fought him to protect them. Doflamingo decided to abandon his attempt to kill Maud and take Luo, but a gunshot struck him as both sides prepared to back down.

  • Doflamingo blocked Maud's Armament Haki bullet with an Armament Haki-coated wall of strings and unleashed his awakened White Waves attack.
  • Issho used gravity to slam Doflamingo's white-string waves into the ground, then charged in and attacked him at close range.
  • Doflamingo sent more waves of strings toward the battlefield, but Issho split through them and forced him to defend himself.
  • Doflamingo realized Issho would fight him to the death for Maud's crew, so he gave up on killing Maud and taking Luo.
  • A gunshot rang out, and blood burst from Doflamingo's body.

Ch. 241Fleeing in Disgrace

Maud shot Doflamingo while Mr. Issho restrained him, but Mr. Issho eased his pressure and Doflamingo escaped with a shoulder wound. Maud’s group learned Mr. Issho was not a Marine, but he said they still could not leave as Serves and the Marines arrived.

  • Maud fired a surprise shot at Doflamingo, but Doflamingo crouched under Mr. Issho’s gravity and took the bullet in his shoulder blade.

  • Maud asked why Mr. Issho had held back, and Mr. Issho said he had not restrained his attacks but had never claimed to be a Marine.
  • Mr. Issho told Maud’s group they could not leave, and Serves arrived to address Mr. Issho respectfully.

Ch. 242The So-Called Good Deed

Maud learned that Mr. Issho and the Marines had mistaken the Maud Pirates for a threat, but changed their minds after seeing them help Lor Island fight the plague. Mr. Issho kept Maud’s crew on the island to continue helping, while news of their presence reached Aokiji, who headed toward Lor Island.

  • Serves arrived with Marines and Mr. Issho, while Philo interrupted Serves and revealed her connection to him.
  • Maud challenged Mr. Issho over whether he intended to hand the Maud Pirates over to the Marines, and Mr. Issho gave no direct answer.
  • Mr. Issho and Serves learned that Maud’s crew had helped Lor Island’s residents, so they abandoned plans to oppose them and asked them to keep treating the plague.
  • Mr. Issho promised to shield the crew from interference, while Serves falsely reported that they had left Lor Island to delay a Marine Headquarters warship.
  • After reports spread that the Maud Pirates were still on Lor Island, Aokiji heard the news at sea and recognized the coincidence.

Ch. 243At the Center of the Vortex

As Maud and the Marines worked to eradicate Lor Island’s plague, news of his presence drew Marines and bounty hunters toward the island. When a band of outlaws arrived to claim the reward on Maud, Issho made their ship and ladder vanish, leaving them stranded on the shore.

  • Aokiji decided to visit Lor Island after considering Maud’s recent activity, then froze a Sea King that attacked him.
  • Vice Admiral Momonga set sail for Lor Island, while other Marines and bounty hunters also headed there to pursue Maud.
  • Maud, Luo, and the Marines continued treating villages, and their work brought the plague under control across Lor Island.
  • Issho sensed a ship approaching the northern coastline and walked toward it; Maud abandoned his hunt and followed.
  • A bald outlaw leader and his men landed to claim Maud’s bounty, but Issho made their ship, ladder, and the people on it vanish.

Ch. 244Why Had They Come

Kuma arrived on Lor Island, erased the outlaw crew that had come to kill Bagard. Maud, and said he wanted to inspect the plague treatment before a group of bounty hunters found them.

  • Kuma asked the outlaws why they had come to Lor Island, and their bald leader admitted they intended to take Bagard. Maud's head.
  • Kuma used his Paw-Paw Fruit ability to make the bald leader and his fleeing subordinates vanish, then headed inland.
  • Kuma met Issho and said he had come because of the plague, not to confront the Maud Pirates.
  • Maud welcomed Kuma's request to see the plague treatment and led him and Issho toward the village.
  • Two or three hundred bounty hunters arrived, spotted Maud, and froze when they saw Kuma with him.

Ch. 245Powerful Enforcers

Maud used Issho’s strength to defeat bounty hunters who came for his billion-worth head, gaining experience from their deaths. He returned to the village and found Philo angry that Kuma had been allowed to observe Luo’s surgery while she had not.

  • Issho used Hell Journey to knock out more than half of the bounty hunters, then returned to the village with Kuma while Maud stayed behind.
  • Maud killed the remaining bounty hunters with sword waves and recorded the eligible victims in Hunter’s Notebook, gaining experience points.
  • Maud buried the corpses in nearby pits to prevent them from causing another plague and looked forward to more bounty hunters arriving.
  • Maud returned to the village and found Philo pecking at the Operating Room wall because Luo had let Kuma observe the surgery but would not let her in.
  • Maud wondered whether Kuma and Luo could extract Devil’s Power intact, but decided not to reveal the possibility because the Marines might exploit it against imprisoned ability users.

Ch. 246Promoted to Six Stars

Maud teamed up with Lafitte and Issho to hunt the bounty seekers arriving on Lor Island, rapidly increasing his strength until his physique reached six stars and his Haki reached four stars. On the eleventh day, a Marine warship arrived at the island’s coast.

  • Maud called Sabo to ask whether he had sent Kuma to Lor Island, then assured Sabo he would keep Kuma’s Revolutionary Army identity secret.
  • Lafitte joined Maud’s hunt, and they agreed to make use of Issho’s protection to gather experience from the bounty seekers.
  • Over the next ten days, Issho subdued the bounty seekers while Maud collected their heads and gained enough prey points to reach six-star physique and four-star Haki.
  • On the eleventh day, a warship arrived at Lor Island, where the Marines aboard spotted empty ships along the coastline.

Ch. 247The So-Called Haki

Maud fought Vice Admiral Momonga and defeated him while sparing his life, then helped Lafitte knock out the Marines. Aokiji arrived after the battle, recognized how much Maud had grown, and questioned whether Issho was the reason Maud had stayed.

  • Vice Admiral Momonga led several hundred Marines inland and found Maud, Lafitte, and Issho waiting on the plain.
  • Maud asked Issho to stand aside and fought Momonga, realizing that his six-star strength let him commit fully to each attack.
  • Maud defeated Momonga with a hidden blade strike and spared his life, then knocked down the approaching Marines with Lafitte.
  • Aokiji watched Maud and Lafitte defeat the Marines, while Momonga realized Aokiji had been observing the battle.
  • Aokiji arrived by bicycle, remarked on Maud's growth, and asked whether Issho was why Maud had not fled.

Ch. 248The Pain-in-the-Ass Aokiji

Aokiji arrived to confront Maud, but Issho stepped between them to protect Maud and Lafitte. Maud and Lafitte left for the village while Issho drew Aokiji away, and a flaming meteor fell toward the Marines as the two prepared to clash.

  • Aokiji recognized Issho and questioned his relationship with Maud, while Issho said they were friends and prepared to defend him.
  • Maud judged that Issho and Aokiji would avoid fighting without restraint because of the civilians on Lor Island.
  • Maud told Issho that he and Lafitte would return to the village, then left with Lafitte despite the Marines’ confusion.
  • Issho slashed the air and invited Aokiji to move elsewhere, and a flaming meteor descended toward their location.
  • Maud reassured the worried Lafitte that Issho would be fine, and they continued toward the village.

Ch. 249An Uninvited Guest

After Aokiji and Issho fought to a standstill, Aokiji warned Vice Admiral Momonga not to treat Issho as an enemy or pursue the Maud Pirates. Aokiji then arrived uninvited at the village feast, where he found Kuma among Maud and the others.

  • Maud returned to the village with Lafitte, where Kuma told him he had come out to check on their safety.
  • Aokiji told the injured Vice Admiral Momonga to pretend the day’s events had not happened and identified Issho as the bounty hunter Fujitora.
  • Vice Admiral Momonga argued that the Marines could not ignore Issho, but Aokiji ordered him to leave Issho and the Maud Pirates alone.
  • Aokiji instructed Momonga to stay on Lor Island while the Marines dealt with Serves’s false reports.
  • At a feast with the Heart Pirates, Issho sensed someone approaching, and Aokiji appeared at the table.
  • Aokiji noticed Kuma seated with the group and fell silent in surprise.

Ch. 250I Will Definitely Join the Marines

Aokiji joined Maud and the others for a meal after fighting Yixiao, but Maud made him pay despite Aokiji having no money. When Aokiji asked Jaya about Gaban and voiced concern that Maud could become a hidden danger, Maud said he would have joined the Marines if he had not received a bounty, leaving Aokiji struck by the thought that he had missed out on Maud.

  • Aokiji tried to take a seat at Maud's table, then made an ice chair between Pekkin and Shakky when Maud refused him.
  • Maud demanded one hundred Beli for the meal, and Aokiji, who had no money, turned to Yixiao for help.
  • Yixiao welcomed Aokiji to eat, and Jaya gave him wooden bowls and chopsticks.
  • Aokiji asked Jaya about Gaban, but Maud interrupted her answer by feeding Beli a chicken leg.
  • Aokiji told Maud he was concerned about his future and a possible hidden danger, and Maud said he would have joined the Marines if he had not been given a bounty.

Ch. 251Begin Practicing

Maud reflected that he would have preferred to join the Marines, but he chose a life of freedom and set aside the matter. After Aokiji left, Maud used Kuma’s help to end Lor Island’s plague, then prepared to sail toward a destination connected to the Shichibukai position and test whether Luo could extract Baby-5’s Devil Fruit power.

  • Maud told Aokiji he would have preferred to become a Marine, but he wanted a free life and had no interest in the great treasure.
  • Aokiji ate with the group, then left without confronting the Marines hiding nearby.
  • Maud asked Kuma to help remove the virus from Lor Island’s patients, and the plague was eradicated within a few days.
  • Maud decided to leave Lor Island that evening for a destination connected to the Shichibukai position, bringing Luo and Lafitte aboard the Netherworld.
  • Lafitte hypnotized Baby-5 and learned that the Weapon-Weapon Fruit resembled a pineapple.
  • Maud gave Luo a pineapple and prepared to test whether Luo could use the Op-Op Fruit to transfer Baby-5’s Devil Fruit power into it.
