Background / History

Obito met Uchiha Yuzuru shortly before enrolling in the Ninja Academy. He boldly declared that he would one day surpass Yuzuru, but immediately undermined the claim by arriving late to the enrollment ceremony. Yuzuru nevertheless gave him his enrollment notice and became an important elder-brother figure in his life 22.

He initially struggled academically and was known as a “dead last,” while Kakashi repeatedly defeated him in sparring. Rather than giving up, Obito trained obsessively to surpass Kakashi; Yuzuru noted that his combat ability had visibly improved, though his impatience remained a weakness 57 62.

After the Uchiha relocated, Obito trained under Yuzuru and accompanied him, Kakashi, and Shisui on increasingly dangerous missions, including the S-rank operation in Rōran and later battlefield deployments.
