Zhenjiang, Jinshan Temple,
A beam of Buddhist light flew into the abbot's meditation room,
Fahai sat cross-legged on a meditation cushion, cultivating in seclusion. After decades of ups and downs, he had finally become the abbot of Jinshan Temple.
"Great Python God, wake up already!"
The dazzling Buddhist wheel behind Buddha Tathagata filled the entire meditation room with golden light,
"Amitabha!"
"This humble monk, Fahai, pays his respects to the Senior Monk!"
With Buddhist chants ringing in his ears, Fahai immediately stepped down from the cushion and bowed to Buddha Tathagata with his palms pressed together,
"No need for excessive courtesy!"
"I have come to bestow upon you magic treasures for subduing demons and exorcising evil!"
"You have converted nine hundred and ninety-eight demons. With just one more demon, your merit will be complete, and you can return to Vulture Peak!"
With a casual wave of his hand, Rulai caused a golden alms bowl, a Buddhist staff, a string of Prayer Beads, and a kasaya to emerge from the Buddhist light.
Seeing such treasures, delight appeared on Fahai's face, and he hurriedly thanked him again,
"Thank you, Buddha Ancestor, for bestowing these treasures!"
Buddha Tathagata nodded slightly. It seemed that Fahai was quite sensible. Perhaps he could be cultivated more in the future.
"Fahai, do you know why this final demon has yet to appear?"
Fahai shook his head at this.
Rulai raised his hand, and a water mirror suddenly appeared inside the meditation room. Its surface rippled, reflecting the misty, drizzling West Lake.
The scene in the mirror shifted. A woman in white, holding an oil-paper umbrella, slowly crossed the Broken Bridge.
At her side followed a woman in green, also holding an oil-paper umbrella. The two chatted and laughed as they walked,
"Bai Suzhen!" Rulai's voice was deep.
