Background / History

Lucy grew up in the Heartfilia family. She recalls a happy childhood with Jude and Layla, but Jude became increasingly consumed by business, neglected Layla during her illness, and left Lucy feeling suffocated in her own home. She ran away the previous year to seek a life outside the family estate. 120

She first encounters Natsu, Happy, and Yun Feiyang at Harujion Port after impostor Mages frame Fairy Tail. Drawn to Fairy Tail, she accepts Natsu’s invitation to join, only to be immediately overwhelmed by the guild’s constant fighting and disorder. 88 89

Jude later hires Phantom Lord to bring her back, making Lucy the immediate cause of the conflict between the two guilds. Lucy refuses to return to a home defined by wealth rather than affection, while Fairy Tail declares that she is family and chooses to protect her. 118 120

After Yun Feiyang helps dismantle Jude’s business empire, Lucy refuses the shares offered to her and gives them to Fairy Tail instead. She later reconciles with Jude after he begins again at the Acalifa Chamber of Commerce. 145 146

Lucy initially sees herself as one of the few normal people in Fairy Tail. She is easily exasperated by the guild’s destruction, strange behavior, and Yun’s habit of getting her name wrong, but gradually becomes attached to its members and accepts them as family. 89 90 120
