But when Hector used a drone to survey the area from above, he failed to spot a single suspicious figure.
He found it unbelievable, and humiliation and anger surged through him.
He felt humiliated because he had been played!
And he was angry because he had been played!
But anger would not solve anything.
So Hector gradually calmed down.
He wondered if they were simply
running late.
Hector decided to be patient and wait a little longer.
And so he waited in the cold and darkness for two whole hours.
More than an hour had passed since the agreed time. No matter how late they were running, they could not possibly be this late. There was no typhoon or downpour tonight, either, so they had no excuse.
Finally, Hector could stand it no longer and called Su Xiao.
He had thought the fraud would be too guilty to answer, but the call connected almost immediately.
"I'm already here, you fraud! When are you coming? Or are you afraid to face me?"
"No, Mr. Hector. I'm already here."
Hector's first reaction was to break out in a cold sweat.
Then came disbelief.
The Scout Drone had just scanned the entire area, inside and out. No one was hiding here.
Unless Su Xiao and his companions had dug tunnels in the cemetery and hidden inside them, like the Japanese soldiers in the Pacific theater.
But if that were the case, it would actually make things easier. They had completely surrounded the cemetery, trapping their targets with nowhere to run. The outcome would be the same.
"If you're not a fraud, prove it. I've brought the money. We exchange it for the ashes, hand to hand."
"I don't think that will be necessary."
"You really are a fraud! You're not here at all!"
