Background
The Three Pure Ones originated from the Primordial Spirit of Great God Pangu and inherited a share of his Heaven-Opening Merit. Their common origin made them Pangu’s orthodox descendants, but their teachings diverged: the Heavenly Origin Sect emphasized quality over quantity, while the Intercepting Sect accepted disciples without regard for background. These disagreements ultimately split the brothers, and Tongtian left Kunlun for Golden Ao Island. 2 12
Yuanshi’s change in outlook began the reconciliation. He publicly rejected discrimination based on origin, taught that all beings are nurtured by heaven and earth, and defended the Intercepting Sect during the dispute over the eight Human Race Sage Teacher positions. Taiqing and Tongtian supported him against Zhunti and Jieyin, presenting a united front against outside interference. 4 7 9 12
Their renewed unity became concrete during the conflict over Fuxi. When the Two Sages of the West confronted Yuanshi, Taiqing and Tongtian intervened to defend their brother and the Three Pure Ones’ reputation. Their three sects later cooperated in Human Race affairs, opposed the Western Teachings, and developed the Three Pure Ones Realm as a shared foundation. 18 21 56 59
The brothers eventually withdrew their true spirits from the Heavenly Dao, accepting reduced Saintly cultivation in exchange for independence from the Mystic Gate. After Hongjun attempted to forcibly place their disciples on the Investiture of the Gods List, all three publicly severed their karma with the Mystic Gate. 77 85
They united the Human Sect, Heavenly Origin Sect, and Intercepting Sect into the Daoist Gate. The Great Dao acknowledged its establishment, while Nuwa and Houtu joined its cause through the Human Dao and Earthly Dao. 87 92
