Background

Nuwa created the Human Race within the Palace of Empress Nuwa, molding humans from Nine Heavens Breathing Soil and Nine Heavens Spiritual Water. The merit of this act made her a Sage and established her as the Human Race’s Sage Mother. 1

As the Human Race’s creator, Nuwa was deeply affected by the Heavenly Dao’s arrangements for its future. Although she resented sharing the Human Race’s destiny through the Sage Teacher positions of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, she accepted the arrangement because it had Hongjun’s approval and she had no lineage of her own. 7

When Paoxi Shi—Fuxi’s human incarnation—was born, Nuwa recognized the heavenly will and bestowed the Fuxi Qin and River Luo Tuo Shu upon him. 14 She later learned from Primordial Lord of Heaven that the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation could reduce the Human Emperor to a Son of Heaven, suppress the Human Race, and prevent the Human Dao from being established. 22

Appearance

Nuwa is portrayed as a peerlessly beautiful woman whose natural appearance exceeds mortal beauty. She usually wears neither makeup nor adornments and maintains a composed, unreadable expression. 6

Personality

Nuwa initially remains neutral and reclusive in the conflicts between the Saints. She observes disputes rather than joining them, but her detachment is partly rooted in the restrictions imposed by her status as a Heavenly Dao Saint. 6 7

Her strongest priority is the Human Race. The prospect of its decline and the fall of the Human Dao causes her to reconsider her neutrality, leading her to accept Primordial Lord’s proposal and prepare to establish an independent Human Dao. 22 49

She is proud, resolute, and unwilling to remain indebted. After receiving the Human Dao Seal, she regards warning the Three Pure Ones of Hongjun’s intentions as repayment for Primordial Lord’s favor. 59 She ultimately accepts severe pain, the loss of her Saint’s Dao Fruit, the Purple Cloud Lightning Tribulation, and opposition from the Mystic Gate to free herself from Heavenly Dao control. 69 70
