Background

Lan Ying was raised in Poison Dragon Village under her grandmother Lan She's care. Lan She remained the village's Shaman, while Lan Ying handled much of its daily affairs and was expected to succeed her. She began cultivating the Primordial Star Gu Scripture at five years old, displaying exceptional talent for its spiritual techniques. 196 208

Before Lin Yuan formally entered Poison Dragon Village, he inadvertently saw Lan Ying while both were unclothed at the Sacred Pool. Because a Miao girl's body was regarded as a symbol of purity, the incident carried serious personal significance for her. She initially believed she hated him, but her anger, jealousy, and distress whenever he distrusted her revealed that she had fallen in love with him. 200 203

After Lin Yuan left Poison Dragon Village, Lan Ying chose to stop pursuing him impulsively and instead dedicate herself to cultivation and her responsibility as the future Shaman. Her goal became to follow his path closely enough to support him, even if he never accepted her feelings. 211 421

Lan Ying is playful, forthright, and emotionally intense. When Lin Yuan first arrives at Poison Dragon Village, she taunts him and influences Lan She to admit him only after he passes through the dangerous White Immortal Cave. Beneath this hostility, however, she worries about his safety and is deeply hurt when he assumes her help must conceal a trap. 196 200

Her affection for Lin Yuan initially drives reckless choices. She plants the Golden Silkworm Love Gu in him, then becomes devastated when he confronts her and is willing to die to free him from its effects. Lan Ying first appears when Lin Yuan seeks Poison Dragon Village's Savage God Drum arts. She persuades Lan She not to immediately drive him away, but helps impose the White Immortal Cave trial on him. 196

While accompanying Lin Yuan through White Immortal Cave, she tries to warn and protect him through her secret techniques. His continued distrust leaves her heartbroken and makes her acknowledge her feelings to Lan She. 200

She guides Lin Yuan to Pan Mountain in search of Soul Returning Wood, slows their journey to prolong their time together, and is injured during the expedition. Lin Yuan tends to her wounds and carries her back to the village. 203 206

Lan Ying secretly plants the Golden Silkworm Love Gu in Lin Yuan. When he discovers it, she offers her life to remove the curse; he instead keeps her alive and makes her teach him the Primordial Star Gu Scripture. 207 209 210
