  • Tall, slender build and handsome face. 18
  • Carries himself with a scholarly, refined air while retaining a sharp gaze. 18
  • Uses light combat gear during field missions. 21
  • Usually carries a longsword after his partnership with Fang Yan begins. 21 25

Personality

Chu Feng initially approaches Fang Yan with restrained arrogance, trusting in his own high Blood Essence, speed, and unconventional techniques. After losing their Class A combat match, he openly acknowledges Fang Yan's strength and agrees to work with him. 18

He is practical and adaptable in dangerous environments. He contributes wilderness knowledge, prepares supplies in advance, recognizes when a retreat is necessary, and uses terrain and traps to improve his team's odds. 19 20 21

Chu Feng is also competitive but sportsmanlike. He seeks a full-strength duel with Fang Yan in the grade-level final, accepts defeat without resentment, and treats their clashes as opportunities to improve. 24 25

Abilities & Skills

Blazing Sword Technique

Chu Feng's primary martial art is a fire-attribute sword technique. Its sword qi becomes increasingly ferocious as he advances through its layers. 22 24 26

  • Uses flame-coated sword attacks in combat. 25 27
  • Reaches the third layer before the first-year Martial Arts Competition. 24
  • Begins advancing toward the fourth layer during the national-team training period. 26
  • Uses Fire Dragon Emerges from Sea to open his final match against Fang Yan. 25
  • Uses Fire Dragon Roar as his final move against Fang Yan; its fire-dragon manifestation is ultimately suppressed by Fang Yan's ice technique. 25

Wind-Element Movement Technique

Chu Feng possesses a swift, wind-element movement technique that allows him to rapidly reposition and attack from blind spots. 18

  • Appears to vanish and reappear behind Fang Yan during their Class A match. 18
  • Enables agile movement during wilderness scouting and escape. 19
  • Is weakened when Fang Yan freezes the ground and lowers the arena's temperature. 18

Folding-Fan Techniques

Before focusing on sword combat, Chu Feng fights with a folding fan that functions as both a concealed weapon and a short staff. 18

  • Fires dozens of poisoned silver needles from the fan. 18
  • Uses the closed fan as a short staff in close combat. 18
  • Generates wind blades with the fan while moving at high speed. 18

Fieldcraft and Tactical Support

Chu Feng has greater wilderness-survival experience than Fang Yan when they are first assigned together. 19

  • Selects and helps fortify a cave campsite at Black Wind Ridge. 19
  • Scouts for Exotic Beast activity and identifies the approaching Beast Tide. 19
  • Knows a shortcut out of Black Wind Ridge. 19
  • Prepares rations, water, insect repellent, detoxifying medicine, grenades, and first-aid spray for the Misty Forest mission. 21

Battlefield Command

During the defense of Black Wind Canyon, Chu Feng leads a twenty-person ambush unit from the left cliff. 35

  • Is tasked with prioritizing Dark Demon Race archers. 35
  • Continues fighting after being wounded by a Black Wind Leopard. 35

Story Role / Major Arcs

Class A Combat and Wilderness Trial

Chu Feng first faces Fang Yan in Kyoto UST's weekly practical combat competition. His poisoned needles, folding-fan attacks, and wind movement technique pressure Fang Yan, but Fang Yan restricts his mobility with ice and defeats him with Ice Dragon's Roar. Chu Feng accepts the result and agrees to cooperate in the upcoming wilderness trial. 18

At Black Wind Ridge, he provides scouting, survival knowledge, and an escape route when a Beast Tide overwhelms them. During the canyon ambush, he sets the trap and protects Fang Yan from an attack by the Bloodthirsty Wild Boar, enabling Fang Yan to kill it. 19 20

Misty Forest Mission

Chu Feng joins Fang Yan in eliminating the Misty Giant Python. His fire-attribute inner energy is used to counter the python's miasma, though his sword cannot easily penetrate its scales. The pair ultimately defeat the beast through coordinated attacks. 21

First-Year Martial Arts Competition

After reaching the third layer of the Blazing Sword Technique, Chu Feng advances through the first-year competition and meets Fang Yan in the final. He pushes Fang Yan with Fire Dragon Roar, but loses when Fang Yan answers with Ice Dragon Roar: Dual Ultimate Edition. He accepts defeat and is selected alongside Fang Yan, Lin Mengyao, and Li Hao for the National Collegiate Martial Dao League. 24 25

National Team and Frontline Service

Chu Feng trains with Kyoto UST's national team, improving his Blazing Sword Technique and flame temperature. He is injured during the Dark Demon Race ambush but recovers sufficiently to continue traveling with the team. 26 27 28

After Fang Yan wins the National Collegiate Martial Dao League, Chu Feng volunteers for the northern front lines with the other top contestants. He later becomes part of the Eagle Cub Assault Team and fights in the defense against the Dark Demon Race. 34 36 37

Defense of Black Wind Canyon

When Fang Yan leads an elite ambush force at Black Wind Canyon, Chu Feng commands the left-cliff team. A Black Wind Leopard wounds him during the battle, but he remains part of the defending force and follows Fang Yan's command during the later successful defense. 35 39

Trivia

  • Chu Feng's first combat weapon is a folding fan rather than a conventional sword. 18
  • His fire-attribute swordsmanship naturally contrasts with Fang Yan's ice-attribute techniques, making their matches a recurring fire-versus-ice rivalry. 21 25
  • Although he begins as Fang Yan's opponent, he is repeatedly paired with him for dangerous field missions because their abilities complement each other. 18 19 21
