Deep in the dense forest, Shi Jue and Shi Hao hid beneath a huge boulder, exposing only their eyes as they watched the outside.
"Shi Jue, has that Peng Bird left?" Shi Hao whispered. That Great Peng Bird had been far too powerful. Along the way, it had crushed the hard shell of a thousand-year-old turtle as easily as squeezing tofu, giving him quite a fright.
"It should be gone. I doubt it would waste time with the two of us."
Shi Jue moved the boulder aside. The air no longer carried that murderous aura.
"It can really chase. It pursued us for hundreds of miles." Shi Hao had never felt so stifled before. He had not even had a chance to fight back.
"No, based on my many years of experience, that Peng Bird should be female. There must be eggs in its nest. We'll steal them when the time comes!"
"Shi Jue, you're fast. Draw it away when the time comes, and I'll do the stealing."
Shi Jue was instantly full of question marks, utterly speechless. That was certainly a powerful reason, though there was nothing wrong with it.
"Come at me!"
Not long afterward, Shi Jue stood not far from the nest, shouting provocation at the top of his lungs.
"Screech!"
The Great Peng Bird poked its head out of the nest, its eyes glowing red. It could not understand how this little ant dared provoke it.
"Damn it, run!"
Seeing the Great Peng Bird diving toward him, Shi Jue turned and ran without another word. But the Great Peng Bird's Precious Technique was extraordinary as well, and it was also highly skilled in speed.
"Take care, brother." Shi Hao silently slipped into the nest.
"Boom!"
Shi Jue was not merely running. He split his focus in two, occasionally releasing bolts of purple lightning from his hand. Yet to the Great Peng Bird, its feathers were like a layer of armor. At most, they were slightly scorched black.
Even without being injured, the Great Peng Bird was still enraged. Its speed increased by another tenth as it swooped straight at Shi Jue.
"Ah, brothers, you're here! Hurry up, get it! Let's take it down together!"
At that very moment, Shi Jue spotted Xiong Fei and the others hurrying over ahead of him. A smile immediately appeared on his face. He waved at them, then vanished. Having lost its target, the Great Peng Bird took Xiong Fei and the others for Shi Jue's companions and attacked them directly.
"Damn, it's that Big Black Hand bastard. What a rotten, shameless scoundrel."
"He changed his appearance. He's really cunning!"
The Heaven Mending Pavilion elders and the clan elders attacked together, beginning to suppress the enraged Beast King.
"Did you get them?"
Shi Jue was not worried that they could not handle it. He went directly to the place he had agreed to meet Shi Hao.
"Almost. They'll be done any moment now!" Shi Hao held a large frying pan with two fried eggs bigger than faces on it. They gave off an enticing fragrance and a faint golden glow, while powerful Life Essence surged within them.
"They smell amazing. Shi Hao, did you learn all the aunties' cooking skills?" Shi Jue casually sat on the ground and laughed.
"Of course. Eat wherever we go. All right, they're ready."
Although cooking them this way caused some of their essence to be lost, they tasted excellent.
The two had no idea that the elders were suffering bitterly right now. Their battle with the Great Peng Bird had made such a huge commotion that it attracted several more Beast Kings, leaving them completely tied down.
They all hated Shi Jue and Shi Hao to the bone. In their hearts, they had already listed them as Heaven Mending Pavilion's least welcome people.
After eating their fill.
Shi Jue's body suddenly shook. Behind him, a fourth Heavenly Passage slowly took shape, becoming a vortex like a giant Taotie maw that crazily devoured the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Four-colored "magma" emerged from the four Heavenly Passages and flowed into Shi Jue's body.
"You're breaking through pretty fast. It's only been a few months!" Shi Hao said in surprise.
Though the bird eggs contained plenty of energy, he felt that he was still a little short of breaking through.
"I could have broken through earlier. I had accumulated a lot of energy in my body; I was only missing the right opening." Shi Jue spoke calmly. He had finally caught up to the number of Heavenly Passages Shi Hao had at the beginning.
By the time they left Heaven Mending Pavilion, he had to reach at least Nine Heavenly Passages. He would have to work hard to reach Ten Heavenly Passages. Shi Hao, on the other hand, could reach Ten Heavenly Passages.
"Let's go rob people!" Shi Hao packed up the cooking utensils and stood.
With the brothers working together, hundreds of geniuses in the First Battlefield fell victim to them. All their treasures, Treasure Bones, and precious blood were taken away by the two.
As expected of disciples from great clans, they were truly rich. The two made a fortune. Before these geniuses had set out, their clan elders had given each of them the best cultivation resources. Now, all of it had benefited Shi Jue and Shi Hao.
The three days of assessments quickly passed.
Many people looked rather unpleasant. After all, their children had been ambushed.
The Heaven Mending Pavilion elders were all injured, showing just how powerful those Beast Kings had been.
"Any news of the Brat and that Big Black Hand?" Elder Xiong Fei said darkly. Those two scourges were simply too hateful. The wicked things they had done were enough to make people cough up blood.
"We haven't found them. They probably know a Precious Technique for changing their appearance and have blended in among those who passed. But in the First Battlefield, two hundred and forty-one geniuses were knocked unconscious, and all the treasures on them vanished." Elder Zhuo Yun shook his head.
"Good grief. Knocking people out must have been Big Black Hand's work, and looting their treasures must have been that Milk Baby!"
"Sigh, with those two ancestors falling upon Heaven Mending Pavilion, life probably won't be easy from now on."
"They are geniuses, all right, but neither of them is well-behaved."
The people around them began discussing it. They now understood even more deeply just how headache-inducing the destructive power of those two children was.
"The assessment is over. Follow us into Heaven Mending Pavilion now."
The elders no longer intended to search for them. It would be better to wait until they exposed themselves within Heaven Mending Pavilion. Then, wouldn't it be easy to deal with them?
Among the crowd, a silver-robed youth rubbed his head. Why did it feel as though something was missing here? How strange.
He was Xiao Tian, the youth with the prominent horn in the original story. But this time, Shi Hao had not gone to the Second Battlefield, so Xiao Tian had escaped disaster.
"Xiao Di, why is there a Horn growing from your head?"
Xiao Tian looked at his younger clansman and asked in surprise. He had not noticed it before, though there was a trace of schadenfreude in his voice.
"Don't mention it, Brother Xiao Tian. It was all that Big Black Hand's doing. I was knocked out head-on in the First Battlefield, and then that Milk Baby stripped me clean from head to toe." Xiao Di gritted his teeth in anger. It was simply humiliating.
"Then you really had it rough. Good thing I wasn't in the First Battlefield, or I probably would have suffered the same fate." Xiao Tian patted Xiao Di's shoulder to show his sympathy.
"Hmph, just don't let me run into him!" Xiao Di made a fierce threat.
Shi Jue was only a few people away from him and heard every word clearly. So there was someone who wanted revenge!
