Whoosh. A cool breeze swept past.
The empty supermarket was silent. Products were neatly arranged on the shelves, but there was no one at the checkout and not a single customer in sight.
Only the electronic vending machines beside them kept flashing with fluorescent light, their screens occasionally displaying discount ads for different products.
Lu Sheng followed the bald Wei Dazhuang into the supermarket, looking at the scene before him in surprise.
"Is there no one here?" he could not help asking.
"I don't know. Maybe this place is too dangerous, so no one is willing to come here and work. Everything's automated now. You can shop directly with a phone or ID card."
The bald man, Wei Dazhuang, answered in a wooden voice.
"Is that so?" Lu Sheng was doubtful.
"That's how it is." Wei Dazhuang skillfully tore a shopping bag from a hook on the right side of the entrance. With a swish, it unfolded and expanded. Then he carried the bag and strode into the supermarket.
The supermarket was not small. It had three floors from bottom to top, each one as large as a basketball court.
Following Wei Dazhuang, Lu Sheng watched him continuously stuff all kinds of food, seasonings, flour, and other ingredients for cooking into the shopping bag.
"You can cook too?" he asked in surprise.
"Of course." Wei Dazhuang quickly found all the groceries he wanted, then carried the huge bag and turned to glance at Lu Sheng.
"Aren't you getting anything?" he asked.
"No." Lu Sheng shook his head.
Wei Dazhuang walked to the self-checkout machine and began paying with a pained expression.
Lu Sheng looked around. Aside from the two of them, there truly was not a single person nearby.
It was hard to say why there would be a supermarket
