Countless deathly pale vortices spun, surged, and ground against one another. At the center of the swirling maelstroms, a man covered from head to toe in countless white tentacles sat casually in midair, as though solid, level ground lay beneath his feet.
"Why have you persisted to this extent? You should know that sooner or later, this world will be trodden beneath our feet."
A calm woman's voice lingered and echoed around the man.
The man did not answer immediately. He held a fragment of some crude sculpture in his hand, lowering his head to gently stroke it.
"I don't want to either. But other than me, no one can hold this position anymore," he said helplessly, head lowered.
"AnGeLiEr made an agreement with me. I would only stand here for one month, and she would come relieve me after that."
