Hobart's defense had been nothing short of brilliant. He had effectively avoided his opponent's attacks while delivering an unexpected blow that cut off all of the other side's avenues of retreat.
However, Hobart also knew that his victory in this lawsuit had depended on his opponent being too "cooperative." He had considered this yesterday: if Barton had been defending the defendant, he absolutely would not have insisted that the promissory note had no legal effect.
Doing so would either have dragged him into an endless argument with the Plaintiff Lawyer or allowed the Plaintiff Lawyer to exploit loopholes in the relevant regulations, just as Hobart had.
Neither of those outcomes should have been something the Defendant Lawyer wanted to see.
Of course, that was only hypothetical. Barton would never have been interested in such a minor case.
Before long, the Judge delivered the ruling, ordering the defendant to repay the loan within three weeks.
The moment the Judge gave the ruling, Hobart felt that delightful sense of Potion digestion again! He immediately reflected: Was it because I completed the commission? No, completing a commission only makes spirituality more active. Was it because I made use of the rules of law? No!
Hobart suddenly came to a realization: It was the loophole. I exploited a loophole in the regulations!
Compared with the previous times he had digested the Potion, Hobart discovered that the amount digested by winning through exploiting a loophole was roughly the same as when he used the rules to take actions favorable to himself.
Being skilled at using rules and at discovering loopholes in how those rules were applied—this was the core of acting as a Lawyer!
Hobart smiled knowingly. If he acted according to this principle, he would digest the Potion faster than he had planned!
