Oboro and Hisoka stepped through the gates of Nen at roughly the same time.
Yet in just over half a month, Hisoka had created a Nen ability perfectly suited to himself.
How could Oboro, whose mastery of Nen surpassed Hisoka's, possibly be slower than him?
The moment he became a Nen user, the system panel had already displayed information regarding Nen ability development, training, and more...
It was just that... on one hand, he needed to build a solid foundation; on the other, he had to train his body and practice Chinese Martial Arts.
Most importantly, developing his Nen ability was not simple. It could even be called an enormous undertaking.
A Nen ability was a trump card, a hidden ace.
It determined a Nen user's upper limit.
Whether Oboro could become one of the world's strongest depended greatly on the development of his Nen ability. He could not afford to be careless.
Looking across all of Hunter x Hunter, most characters' abilities were relatively straightforward... easy to understand at a glance.
The individual "units" of their Nen abilities were also fairly small, such as Kurapika's chains, Shizuku's vacuum cleaner Blinky, Kite's clown, and so on. These people pursued functionality or methods that could perfectly maximize their own combat ability.
The more complex or larger a Nen ability was, the harder it became for its user to control.
Sometimes... developing a Nen ability to be too cumbersome was not a good thing. The simpler and more direct it was, the better.
But Oboro was a transmigrator, after all. He had his own advantages... and he knew exactly what they were.
Rather than relying purely on arduous training to reach the summit of this world, he preferred to develop his Nen ability to its ultimate limit...
In Hunter x Hunter, the person who had developed the largest Nen ability was Netero.
His 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva!
That required extraordinarily immense Nen power to sustain...
Because of his body's natural gifts, Oboro could imitate that approach, enlarging his conjured ability while incorporating complex settings into it... The larger the Nen ability, the more Nen power it consumed. The more complicated it was, the greater the demand on his brain's calculating ability.
That was the drawback.
But the advantage was its upper limit!
The upper limit Oboro pursued had been decided from the moment he arrived in this world and learned it was Hunter x Hunter... The mountain he wanted to stand upon and the scenery he wanted to see were places no one had ever reached or witnessed.
There were too many powerful people in Hunter x Hunter.
If he wanted to succeed, he had to forge a different path... He had to accomplish what ordinary people could not.
A Nen ability that was too large and too complex... Other Nen users might consider such an idea unfeasible.
What suited oneself was the best!
Because this type of development had advantages and disadvantages that were both far too obvious. It was a double-edged sword.
Even Netero's 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva was enormous, but it was not especially complex... It was only because the old man's Nen power was bottomless that he could sustain and control that fighting style.
There was another key point: the Nen ability one developed had to be practical, something one could master with ease and integrate into one's own combat. Put simply, it had to be something one could quickly get the hang of...
A classic example of developing a Nen ability incorrectly was Kastro, who had lost to Hisoka.
He was an Enhancement type, yet the ability he developed was a clone... That clearly ran contrary to his Nen affinity, preventing his combat power from reaching its fullest potential and wasting his talent for nothing.
Combining Oboro's understanding of Nen, all the character abilities and effects from Hunter x Hunter that he had seen... along with the advantages of this body and his aura reserves, as well as a direction suited to himself, the system's conclusion was... games! Oboro had been a gaming fanatic in his previous life. When he was younger, staying up all night playing games had been routine.
So... games were far too familiar to him.
His proficiency and adaptability would be absolutely perfect!
The ability Oboro had developed so far was still incomplete... It only possessed a certain degree of effect.
In other words, he was still in the process of developing his ability.
He named his ability the "Game Treasury of the Endless Dreamer!"
What he wanted to conjure... was an entire Game World!
Before everyone's eyes, a tiny button appeared in the empty air before Oboro on the arena platform.
The instant Echimilu saw the button, he understood. "Conjuration?"
Oboro pressed the button with a finger.
Then, a coin-sized face abruptly appeared on the button, stammering, "B-Booting... up..."
Hearing the sound coming from the button, the dreadlocked man felt danger for no reason at all. In an instant, he lunged at Oboro.
He wanted to end the match!
He would not give Oboro the chance to use his ability!
However, when his punch tore through the air with an explosive crack, Oboro actually flashed aside and dodged it! "!!!!"
Echimilu's pupils contracted.
Staring at the figure that had darted away, he realized inwardly, This kid is starting... to adapt to my attack rhythm. It hasn't even been that long, yet he's already improved...
"Log... in... successful. Beginning... game... loading!"
The floating Face Button issued another prompt.
Then, it suddenly began humming a piece of background music.
"Players... please... prepare... Game Start!"
The Face Button called out mechanically before abruptly vanishing.
The space around Oboro began to distort, and a vortex-like black hole appeared.
The black hole resembled a mass of arranged pixel blocks, as though it had been mosaicked over.
"Resources... Judging by the size, they should be minions. My luck's a little bad... but it doesn't matter."
Oboro smiled faintly.
He did not need to rack his brains over the settings of his Nen ability. All he had to do... was develop and refine it. He could directly copy the Game World he wanted to conjure. And the game he knew best, the one he had played for nearly ten years, was League of Legends, a game that had swept across Earth in his previous life.
The complete world he wanted to conjure was the space where players battled one another.
It involved five categories: equipment, resources, champions, maps, and Rune Skills! Because his ability was still not strong enough... the things the Game Vault conjured were random.
What Oboro wanted to achieve was complete control over and use of everything in the game! Unfortunately, he still had a long way to go.
He did not need any adjustment period to control this "Game World," because... he was simply too familiar with it.
Immediately afterward, soldiers clad in long robes and pointed hats continuously emerged from the black hole. They carried shields and longswords, while others were archers... Some even rode cannon carts.
These game minions were slightly smaller than ordinary people, and their appearance had a pixelated quality. But their numbers were astonishing. In the blink of an eye, they packed the entire arena.
The dreadlocked man was completely surrounded, and Oboro's figure had long since disappeared from his field of vision.
A group of melee minions raised their weapons and launched an attack on the dreadlocked man.
He moved swiftly, throwing out streams of punch shadows. He discovered that these minions posed limited threat to him... He could basically kill one with two punches, and with Nen protecting him, the blades striking his body were not fatal.
What made things difficult was that there were simply too many minions... Their mindless swarm alone could crush him to death!
Not to mention the arrows constantly flying toward him...
The melee minions were manageable. What Echimilu truly feared were the archers... No matter how he dodged, their arrows always struck him with precision!
It seemed like a one-hundred-percent hit rate!
Why?!
"Is this really a Conjuration ability?!"
The dreadlocked man could not believe it.
Below the stage.
Biscuit, who had originally been waiting to watch a good show, stood up the moment Oboro revealed his ability. Her expression became exceptionally serious.
Even Wing had never seen her wear such an expression before.
"Is he really a Conjuration type? Why do I feel like he's more of a Specialization type, or..." Wing swallowed.
"He is a Conjuration type!"
Biscuit took a deep breath, nodded, and answered with certainty.
"It is just that his understanding of Nen is even deeper than I imagined! At his age, how could that be possible... Logically speaking, one could only notice this after studying Nen cultivation for an extremely long period of time."
"What do you mean?"
Wing looked over.
"A Nen user's Nen affinity is not absolute! It only means they are more compatible with a certain type. For example, if someone's Nen is seventy percent Enhancement, twenty percent Emission, and ten percent Transmutation, then they are an Enhancement type! There are people with a completely singular one-hundred-percent affinity, but they are rare! Nen users of a certain type almost always possess the attributes of the two adjacent types as well, though they are not obvious... Those who have mastered Nen to its peak can, to a certain degree, shift their Nen affinity among several categories and use unusual methods and traits... But someone with a one-hundred-percent affinity for one type cannot do that..."
Biscuit stared intensely at the minions frantically assaulting the arena and said in a low voice, "He is a Conjuration type, and the two affinities closest to Conjuration are Transmutation and Specialization!"
"Most Conjuration users mainly conjure weapons and tools... That is the norm, and it is also the best way to begin and develop."
"But his ability... incorporates both Specialization and Transmutation!"
"I should have noticed it earlier!"
Biscuit bit her finger as a chill rose from the soles of her feet.
Oboro's sensitivity to changes in aura at his age was utterly monstrous! He must have trained for it...
Laughably, she had initially thought Oboro had deliberately strengthened his perception of "aura" in order to understand "the essence of Nen" and improve his techniques... Looking at it now, she had been completely wrong!
That little bastard had taken this path solely to develop his own ability! If he had not possessed such a thorough perception of aura... or rather, energy, Biscuit dared say that Oboro's ability would have died before it was even born!
Shock, confusion, and incomprehension filled Biscuit's beautiful eyes.
Because... this level of understanding and use of Nen should not have appeared in a young man. It was far too unreasonable... If Oboro had been a powerful old senior who had lived for over a hundred years, it would have barely made sense.
This level of mastery had surpassed at least ninety percent of the Hunters in the world.
Biscuit had only learned this from Chairman Netero when she was young.
Although Nen users could shift between several Nen categories, they generally would not do so. Why? Because it was useless!
If you were an Enhancement type, then you had always trained Enhancement techniques... Your strength lay in Enhancement, so why make things difficult for yourself? Yet Oboro had found a way to use this concept, or rather, this ability, and made it perfect! Even Biscuit felt that Oboro had taught her a lesson.
The ability he conjured fused the traits of the other two types.
One had to understand that shifting between Nen categories was something most newcomers who had just become Nen users did not know about at all... How could a child who had only just entered elementary school possibly know what was in a university textbook? And by the time they reached university, the Nen ability they had developed would already have taken shape and could not be changed... Even if they knew and could change it, they would need the skill to develop a Nen ability to a level like Oboro's.
That required two things.
First, one needed an extremely deep understanding of Nen and a vast store of knowledge.
Second, one needed an incredibly detailed perception of the essence of Nen, of all life energy. Only then could one achieve "transformation."
Just like Oboro's shifting aura.
Knowledge could be learned, but it required time—an extremely long time.
As for understanding life... that could not be learned. It required a certain degree of talent.
That was also one of the reasons Biscuit had hesitated when Wing had asked whether she could be as perceptive of aura as Oboro.
Not just Biscuit—she believed that even if Chairman Netero himself were here now, he would be stunned by Oboro's performance.
An utterly absurd thought even surfaced in Biscuit's mind.
"This Oboro is absolutely not some eighteen-year-old novice who has just started out and only recently become a Nen user... Who... exactly is he?"
"Master..."
Wing called out to her several times from beside her.
"I'll be leaving first!"
After Biscuit came back to her senses, she did not even continue watching the match. She immediately turned and left, as though she had something urgent to do.
"It isn't over yet..."
Wing froze.
"No need to watch..."
The girl swayed her twin ponytails, lifted her skirt, and replied without looking back as she ran into the distance.
