The Wounded Spider
Not long after Oboro left, a figure came sprinting wildly onto the scene.
The moment he spotted Phinks's corpse, his eyes widened in alarm and his body stiffened.
Then, step by step, he walked over to his companion.
Shalnark's mind went blank for a moment, but his formidable mental fortitude quickly restored his calm. Taking a breath, he began examining Phinks's injuries... then rose to survey the battlefield.
The blazing sun kept the desert's temperature unbearably high. In a daze, the air nearby seemed to shimmer and warp beneath the heat...
The blood Phinks had spilled had already dried.
"Judging by the footprints, there were three people in total... Two of them were Phinks and Aldama. As for the third... was it him?" Once Shalnark stopped moving, the image of the man in the suit flashed through his mind.
Judging from the state of the area, the battle had been extremely fierce and covered a considerable range.
The problem was that Phinks was the only one dead.
The other two had vanished...
Phinks was dead... Shalnark found it hard to accept. No matter how he looked at it, that examiner should not have been Phinks's match. Besides, Phinks was not as single-minded as Uvogin. Even if the opponent's Nen ability had been overwhelmingly powerful enough to tip the scales, Phinks should still have been able to retreat and escape.
Unless... someone had intervened.
In a one-on-two situation, the man in the suit was fairly capable, at least by his and Phinks's estimation.
But even working together, killing Phinks would not have been so easy.
The battle had ended quickly. He had not arrived immediately, but counting the time difference, it had been less than fifteen minutes.
Phinks had been killed in such a short span of time...
