Mewtwo's Tears (Please follow! Please vote monthly!)
Mewtwo, who had been offline for so long, was actually online again?
And the first thing it did was hit him with a line like that.
It felt like someone telling him, "Master, I understand now." For a moment, he did not know how to respond.
But Mewtwo quickly sent another message.
Who Am I: But I still do not know the meaning of my existence. Why was I born? What am I living for?
Well then.
A question that was only natural and entirely expected.
This was essentially a question about the "superego."
The "superego" followed moral principles and had three functions: first, suppressing the impulses of the id; second, monitoring the ego; third, pursuing a state of perfection.
But before Mewtwo could understand the "superego," it first had to understand the "id"—the most primitive, instinctive desires in its heart, subconscious actions stripped of all intelligence.
The "superego" and the "id" were opposites. Without the "id," the "superego" could not exist.
Jing He rubbed his temples.
In Mewtwo Strikes Back, Sakaki had answered a similar question from Mewtwo.
At the time, Sakaki had answered with, "Pokémon exist to be used by humans and to live for humans." In truth, that was much like instilling an "id" in Mewtwo to conceal its "superego."
Which was why Mewtwo had immediately flown into a rage and lost control.
But Jing He had anticipated this long ago, so he had prepared some thoughts.
After choosing his words carefully, he began typing.
Jing Zhong Zhi He: Before that, you probably need to figure out one thing first—where are you?
Who Am I: Where... am I?
Jing Zhong Zhi He: The world is vast: the universe, planets, continents, cities, houses—moving from far to near, from large to small. As for the meaning of existence, when I am in bed, it is to sleep; when I am at the dining table, it is to fill my stomach; when I am at work, it is to make money. "Where" is a broad concept, but it is also an important reference that shines into your heart.
The "id" was close to instinct, and instinct was, to a certain extent, based on one's environment.
For example, a beast's instincts were to fight, hunt, and mate. Then there had to be at least another beast in front of it for fighting, hunting, or mating to exist, right?
Or, if fighting was for territory, then there had to be territory to fight over, right?
Then, add some "moral rules" to the environment to restrain instinct, and that became the "superego."
A period of silence followed.
Jing He took the opportunity to wash up as he waited for Mewtwo to process his words and reply.
Who Am I: I remember... I was inside a container. I saw Xiao Ai 2, Charmander 2, Squirtle 2, Bulbasaur 2. I miss them a little.
Who Am I: I feel like there is something in my eyes. Xiao Ai 2 once said it seemed to be something called "tears." They... they will not stop. What should I do? Jing He fell silent as he stared at the words on his phone.
He knew Xiao Ai, and he also knew Xiao Ai 2.
Xiao Ai was Dr. Fuji's daughter, who had died young. Xiao Ai 2 was a virtual being Dr. Fuji had created by preserving Xiao Ai's consciousness in the form of radio waves, unwilling to accept his daughter's death.
And Dr. Fuji was one of the doctors who had created Mewtwo.
Xiao Ai 2 had also been the first to come into contact with the young Mewtwo. She told it about the sun, wind, moon, and stars, so that it would no longer be lonely. She was the first person to comfort its heart.
Thus, Xiao Ai 2 held an extremely important place in Mewtwo's heart.
Who Am I: I want to see her. I want to see her again! I want to see Xiao Ai 2 again! Bzz—
Jing He suddenly felt as though something had shocked his palm. His brow twitched slightly, and he hurriedly placed his phone on the table.
Good lord! How far apart were the Hoenn Region and the Kanto Region?!
"Koujie?"
Seemingly noticing Jing He's unusual behavior, Gastly, its mouth covered in white cream, suddenly raised its head and narrowed its eyes.
You want some? Though he asked that, its body was more honest, slowly wrapping the little cake in mist.
But Jing He had no time to deal with it for now. After confirming that there was nothing else wrong with his phone, he immediately picked it back up.
This was actually a good sign for Mewtwo.
At least it knew what it wanted now.
Guiding this problem child Mewtwo is so hard.
Jing He felt helpless.
Because if he guided it poorly, destroying the world was unlikely, but causing some unnecessary massive destruction was practically inevitable.
He could feel a tiny bit of its influence from this far away. It was hard to imagine what would happen if he stood before Mewtwo and Mewtwo lost control.
He did not even dare guide Mewtwo toward freedom just yet.
On one hand, doing so would inevitably offend Team Rocket.
But more importantly, once Mewtwo regained its freedom, it might no longer be able to contact him. If the whole "Trainer Tournament" happened then, no one could estimate how much destruction it would cause.
Jing Zhong Zhi He: Then, I ask that you first suppress that thought and learn to control your instincts. As soon as he sent the message, Mewtwo's name dimmed once more.
"Well... the network probably got fried."
"I hope nothing happens. But with Sakaki and Team Rocket's strength, Mewtwo can probably only make trouble within Team Rocket, right?"
He was not worried about Mewtwo.
After all, there were very few things in this world that could hurt Mewtwo.
When he turned around, he saw that Gastly, having already finished its dinner and dessert, was now wolfing down Energy Cubes.
Sometimes, Jing He even wondered whether he was raising a Snorlax rather than a Gastly.
But Gastly had trained quite hard during the day, and Jing He now had more ways to make money, so he did not say anything.
"Gastly."
"Koujie?"
"Want to watch a movie?"
"Koujie!"
Kanto Region.
Viridian City, Team Rocket's underground base.
Boom! Boom!—
Under flickering red lights, instrument after instrument burst into flames. Dozens of researchers and Team Rocket members were directing Pokémon to put out the fires.
At the center of the laboratory, Mewtwo stood silently in armor, its gaze fixed on a raised platform directly ahead.
Two figures stood on that platform, seemingly unaffected by the surrounding chaos.
"Boss, this is already the second time. Every time Mewtwo accesses the network, it becomes like this. But because of our earlier preparations this time, part of the database information was preserved..." Mato reported.
Yet Sakaki seemed not to hear her. He merely watched the motionless Mewtwo below in silence.
Their gazes seemed to meet in midair.
Suddenly.
Sakaki actually chuckled, his deep voice ringing out.
"Do you want to leave, Mewtwo?"
Bzz—
Behind the visor of Mewtwo's helmet, a pair of eyes glowing with dim blue light slowly appeared.
In an instant.
Everything around them seemed to freeze—the burning flames, leaping arcs of electricity, noisy voices, and the Pokémon fighting the fire. Even Mato beside Sakaki stiffened in place. Only Sakaki remained completely unaffected.
"Is this your self-control? Turning everything into a complete mess?"
Sakaki's expression did not change because of Mewtwo's power. He merely rested a hand on the railing and leaned forward slightly.
"If you want to destroy everything—every person, object, and Pokémon around you—then do it. I will not stop you."
For the first time, Mewtwo looked around.
Did I cause all this?
Destroy everything... destroy people?
Bzz—
A terrifying wave of psychic power spread outward, and every flame in the laboratory was extinguished.
But after doing that, the eyes beneath its helmet visor gradually dimmed.
It still stood there without making another move.
Everything that had been frozen around it returned to normal.
If Jing He had been there, he would surely have felt relieved. Although his final message had failed to go through, Mewtwo had indeed learned restraint—restraint over its "id."
Beneath the helmet, Mewtwo slowly closed its eyes.
I want to see her... and him.
Sakaki gave the silent Mewtwo a deep look before turning away.
Mato came back to her senses and hurried after him.
"Boss."
"Mato, part of the database was preserved this time, correct?"
"Uh, yes. Yes, it was."
"Find him."
Him? Mato froze for a moment, then quickly said, "Understood!"
The smile on Sakaki's face deepened slightly, but his eyes gradually narrowed with a hint of amusement. "Someone who can teach Mewtwo restraint... I am genuinely a little interested in this person now."
