Ch. 41Wataru

Jing He tried to help Gastly grow stronger, but could not afford the Technical Machine for Hex. Meanwhile, Wataru captured an Aerodactyl that had recently awakened from a fossil, and Jing He ended the day by asking about Feebas.

  • Gastly secretly watched Cynthia battle Volkner and tried to show Jing He a transformation it thought resembled Giratina, but Jing He mistook it for other creatures.
  • Jing He planned to visit the Canalave Police Station with Gastly and then buy it a Technical Machine, while Gastly insisted it had thought of a powerful move.
  • Wataru investigated an unknown Pokémon attacking people in Big Dumb Valley, found an Aerodactyl, and captured it with Charizard and Gyarados.
  • Wataru noticed that Aerodactyl seemed unhealthy and emotionally unstable after waking from fossil form, so he hurried to a Pokémon Center.
  • Jing He helped treat two rampaging Pokémon at the Canalave Police Station, but he still could not afford the Hex Technical Machine at Rustboro Department Store.
  • Jing He comforted Gastly and messaged Jing Zhong Zhi He to ask how Feebas had been doing.

Ch. 42Hex and Phone Therapy

Jing He bought Gastly a Hex Technical Machine, then called Cynthia for a paid phone consultation about Feebas’s troubling dreams. The hypnosis session left both Cynthia and Feebas asleep, and Jing He ended the call before going to bed.

  • Jing He spent most of his League Credits on a Hex Technical Machine after earning money from a previous sale.
  • Jing He and Gastly heard movement in the garbage station, but Jing He hurried home without investigating.
  • Jing He called Cynthia and agreed to provide an hour of phone consultations about Feebas.
  • Cynthia said Feebas had been more lively during the day but kept dreaming of a strange Pokémon.
  • Jing He guided Feebas through a hypnosis exercise, and Cynthia fell asleep while the session continued.
  • Jing He ended the call, tucked the sleeping Gastly into bed, and went to sleep.

Ch. 43The Beginning of “Legend”

Jing He took Gastly to a Battle Restaurant, where Gastly battled several opponents and earned a reputation as a formidable, dirty fighter. Back home, Gastly asked which restaurant they would visit next, but Jing He was interrupted by a strange message from “Who Am I.”

  • Jing He checked Gastly’s move proficiency and took it to Blastoise Tail for battle training.
  • Jing He registered under the name Wu Da and Gastly defeated Yusuke’s Plusle, though Gastly initially failed to use Hex.
  • Gastly won several more battles, and the restaurant offered to waive Jing He’s bill if they took a break.
  • Jing He accepted free desserts and brought the food home, where Gastly asked about battling at another restaurant the next day.
  • Jing He received a message from “Who Am I” saying, “I can be Gastly, and I can also be Mewtwo! I am... myself!”

Ch. 44Mewtwo's Tears

Jing He tried to guide Mewtwo through its questions about existence, and Mewtwo revealed that it wanted to see Xiao Ai 2 again. At Team Rocket’s base, Mewtwo restrained its destructive power, while Sakaki ordered Mato to find Jing He.

  • Mewtwo asked Jing He why it had been born and what it was living for, and Jing He urged it to first consider where it was.
  • Mewtwo told Jing He that it remembered Xiao Ai 2 and wanted to see her again, causing a surge of psychic power that disrupted Jing He’s phone.
  • Jing He advised Mewtwo to suppress its desire and learn to control its instincts before Mewtwo went offline again.
  • At Team Rocket’s underground base, Mewtwo’s network access caused fires and chaos, but it extinguished the flames without harming anyone.
  • Sakaki asked Mewtwo whether it wanted to leave and challenged it to destroy everything, and Mewtwo restrained itself.
  • Sakaki told Mato to find the person who had taught Mewtwo restraint.

Ch. 45A Visit

Wataru sought help for Aerodactyl’s battle-induced loss of control and was directed to Pokémon Psychology expert Jing He. Meanwhile, Steven Stone invited Jing He to his family’s home to discuss something, and Jing He accepted while concealing Gastly’s recent Battle Restaurant victories.

  • Wataru stopped Aerodactyl’s uncontrolled fight with Charizard by recalling it and resolved to find help for it.
  • Drake told Wataru to visit Jing He in Canalave City and suggested bringing a gift, so Wataru flew toward Mt. Silver to find one.
  • Jing He and Gastly continued their regular work at the Canalave Police Station, and Jing He planned to buy a Substitute Technical Machine for Gastly.
  • Steven Stone picked up Jing He and invited him to the Stone family home at his father’s request, saying his father wanted to talk.
  • Steven Stone asked Jing He about the strong Gastly trainer 'Wu Da,' and Jing He and Gastly denied knowing anything about him.

Ch. 46Are You Telling Us to Get Lost?

Jing He visited Stone Mokuren’s manor, where Stone Mokuren thanked him for looking after Steven and asked him to help Steven enjoy life as a Trainer and stone enthusiast. The visit ended with Castform and Stone Mokuren going to the hospital after Gastly frightened Castform, while Steven gave Jing He a Pokémon Egg as a token of thanks.

  • Jing He and Steven arrived at Stone Mokuren’s manor and found Stone Mokuren tinkering with a machine that exploded.
  • Castform extinguished the flames with rain, then accidentally struck Stone Mokuren with lightning.
  • Stone Mokuren thanked Jing He for helping Steven and asked him to become Steven’s private tutor or a Devon Corporation consultant.
  • Stone Mokuren said he wanted Jing He to help Steven enjoy being a Trainer and stone enthusiast rather than prepare him to inherit Devon.
  • Gastly frightened Castform while trying to greet it, and Steven later told Jing He that Stone Mokuren and Castform had gone to the hospital.
  • Steven gave Jing He a Pokémon Egg from Stone Mokuren as a token of thanks.

Ch. 47Could You Really Be a Genius?

Jing He watched Gastly master Substitute and encouraged it to develop the move in unexpected ways. The next morning, Gastly spotted an orange figure circling above while practicing.

  • Jing He warned Gastly not to lick the Pokémon Egg President Stone had given him and offered a Substitute Technical Machine in exchange for a month of restraint.
  • Gastly learned Substitute in less than an hour, impressing Jing He with its talent and control over its body.
  • Jing He suggested Gastly try having its Substitute use moves alongside it, and Gastly eagerly embraced the idea.
  • After cleaning up outside, Jing He left Energy Cubes at a garbage station to help the Grimer living there.
  • The next morning, Gastly practiced Substitute by the window and spotted an orange figure circling in the sky.

Ch. 48Hey, It's a Doduo!

Wataru visited Jing He to ask for help with Aerodactyl’s intermittent loss of control during intense battles or training. After giving Jing He Agatha’s secret training notes for Gastly, Wataru agreed to take him outside Canalave City so he could examine Aerodactyl.

  • Gastly mistook Wataru at the door for a Doduo and called Jing He, who recognized the visitor as the famous investigator Lance.
  • Wataru described how Aerodactyl sometimes lost control during intense battles or training, despite showing no problems at the Pokémon Center.
  • Wataru gave Jing He Agatha’s notes, titled “Fearful Insights,” and Jing He warned Gastly to hide them and never show them around.
  • Jing He realized Agatha had likely given Wataru the notes because of his paper about her and Professor Oak, but he avoided explaining the connection.
  • Jing He and Wataru decided to examine Aerodactyl outside Canalave City, and Jing He went to change.

Ch. 49Want a Worthy Opponent?

Jing He identified Aerodactyl’s distress as difficulty adapting to the modern era and learned that it had flown to a construction site after finding amber. He said Aerodactyl needed a powerful Flying-type opponent to regain its confidence, then called Steven to offer him one.

  • Jing He examined Wataru’s Aerodactyl and determined that its despondency came from struggling to adapt after its long slumber, though treatment could speed its recovery.
  • Aerodactyl suddenly flew toward the Verdanturf Mountain Range, and Wataru pursued it on Charizard while Jing He followed with Gastly.
  • Aerodactyl landed at a Devon Corporation excavation site, where it held a piece of amber and cried mournfully.
  • Jing He explained that Aerodactyl needed a powerful outside opponent, preferably a Flying-type Pokémon, to regain its confidence.
  • Jing He called Steven and asked whether he wanted an opponent, offering to send one over.

Ch. 50I'll Only Teach This Once

Jing He arranged a battle between Steven Stone’s Metang and Wataru’s Aerodactyl to rekindle Aerodactyl’s fighting spirit, but the loss was not enough to make it choose Metang as a goal. Jing He then agreed to assess Steven Stone’s Skarmory and prepare to demonstrate a strategy himself.

  • At Steven Stone’s estate, Jing He asked Steven Stone to battle Wataru’s Aerodactyl, but Steven Stone chose Metang rather than Skarmory because he lacked confidence in the recommended strategy.
  • Jing He explained that the battle could motivate Aerodactyl, build Metang’s confidence, and give Steven Stone a challenging opponent.
  • Metang took the initiative with Bullet Punch and Metal Claw, endured Aerodactyl’s Fire Fang, and eventually defeated it with Thunder Punch.
  • Aerodactyl woke with renewed fighting spirit but still did not regard Metang as its goal, so Jing He considered using Steven Stone’s Skarmory instead.
  • Steven Stone persuaded Jing He to command Skarmory, and after an hour Jing He returned with it and said he would teach the strategy once.

Ch. 51Teaching Match

Jing He used Steven Stone’s Skarmory in a rental battle against Wataru’s Aerodactyl, demonstrating how to combine Toxic stalling with defensive tactics. Skarmory defeated Aerodactyl, leaving Wataru relieved and Steven Stone and Gastly impressed by Jing He’s battle strategy.

  • Jing He reviewed Skarmory’s capabilities and briefly trained with it while Wataru let Aerodactyl recover.
  • Steven Stone refereed as Jing He and Wataru began their battle, and Jing He reassured Skarmory that it could fight without pressure.
  • Jing He used Spikes, Iron Defense, and Toxic to obstruct Aerodactyl and wear it down while Wataru pressed with attacks.
  • Jing He used Taunt to interrupt Supersonic, then relied on Protect, Iron Defense, and Roost to withstand Aerodactyl’s assault.
  • Jing He ordered Skarmory to finish the weakened Aerodactyl with Body Press, and Wataru accepted the loss with relief.

Ch. 52Keep a Low Profile

Jing He defeated Wataru in a battle using Steven's Skarmory, impressing both Trainers and reigniting Steven's interest in Pokémon battling. Wataru thanked Jing He and left for Kanto, while Steven began training with Skarmory and Jing He returned home with gifts and a new Technical Machine for Gastly.

  • Wataru accepted his loss to Jing He and decided to teach his Pokémon Taunt, while Steven praised Jing He's command and resolved to improve his own battling.
  • Gastly celebrated mastering Toxic and Substitute, and Jing He thanked Skarmory before realizing it was female.
  • Wataru and Jing discussed Aerodactyl's condition, and Wataru gave Jing He a Sharp Claw as thanks for treating it.
  • Steven gave Jing He a Protect Technical Machine, which Gastly eagerly snatched, and the three Trainers exchanged training advice before parting.
  • Wataru told Drake and Clair that Jing He had treated Aerodactyl and sent Clair footage of the battle.
  • Steven began reinforcing Skarmory's tactics as Stone Mokuren watched happily, while Jing He returned to his residence and headed to meditation after receiving a reminder.

Ch. 53Can I Get a Monthly Pass?

Jing He studied Agatha’s advice on raising Gastly while Gastly struggled to learn Protect, then rushed out to help a creature being attacked by wild Pokémon. He found the injured creature in an alley and discovered it had six tails tangled in sludge.

  • Gastly secretly ate the remaining Energy Cubes and strained to learn Protect, eventually managing to form a barrier around only half its body.
  • Jing He read Agatha’s Fearful Insights and learned more about raising Gastly and its possible evolution.
  • Eevee Eating Cabbage told Jing He that someone had arrived at her house in the middle of the night to challenge her, and she asked whether she could subscribe monthly or yearly to his hypnosis therapy.
  • Jing He spotted a dark figure being chased by a Golbat and two Zubat, called Gastly to help, and ran downstairs after hearing a cry of pain.
  • Jing He found Gastly shielding an injured creature in an alley and saw that six tails were tangled in the sludge covering it.

Ch. 54Ice Vulpix

Jing He rescued a badly injured Vulpix from Golbat and took it to the Pokémon Center, where he learned she was an Alola Vulpix. He brought her home to recover while Gastly kept watch, and the chapter ended with Jing He’s sleeping caller, Cynthia, peacefully dreaming.

  • Jing He and Gastly drove off Golbat and its Zubat, then Jing He calmed the injured Vulpix and had Gastly put her to sleep.
  • Jing He took the Vulpix to the Canalave Pokémon Center, where Nurse Joy treated her for blood loss and severe malnutrition.
  • Cynthia transferred Jing He 200000 League Credit to cover treatment, and Jing He learned his League assistance entitled him to free Pokémon Center care.
  • Jing He discovered the Vulpix was an Alola Vulpix and brought her home to rest, while Gastly stayed beside her.
  • Jing He tried to speak with Cynthia on the phone, but she had fallen asleep, and she slept peacefully among her dolls.

Ch. 55A Perfect Ending?

Jing He gradually earned the wary Ice Vulpix’s trust by offering food, sharing a story about hardship, and giving it bows. After Ice Vulpix showed affection, its Psychic power unexpectedly blasted Gastly into a wall.

  • Jing He and Gastly found Ice Vulpix hiding beneath the wardrobe, but it slapped away Jing He’s Energy Cubes and scratched his hand.
  • Jing He told Ice Vulpix about a friend who had sacrificed much to succeed, then offered it food and promised to help it return to Alola or stay.
  • Ice Vulpix licked Jing He’s wound, and after a day of reassurance it began cautiously accepting his company.
  • Jing He gave Ice Vulpix three blue bows, and it leapt into his arms before letting him put them on.
  • Ice Vulpix licked Jing’s cheek, but Gastly’s saliva splashed onto its bows and it blasted Gastly against the wall with an apparent Psychic ability.

Ch. 56Rising to Fame by Stepping on Wataru? (Asking for Monthly Votes at the Start of the Month!)

Jing He welcomed Ice Vulpix into his household and later learned that a video of his battle with Wataru had gone viral. He chose to leave the video online, then began answering the growing number of requests in his counseling room.

  • Ice Vulpix entered Jing He's Luxury Ball without resisting, and Jing He welcomed it as a new companion for Gastly.
  • Gastly showed Ice Vulpix around the house and suggested sneaking into the kitchen before frightening it with talk of bathing together.
  • Wataru told Jing He that footage of their battle had been uploaded to the Pokémon League page and was attracting attention.
  • Jing He saw the video's growing view count and comments, along with a new surge of interest in his paper and counseling room.
  • After Wataru offered to remove the video, Jing He decided to leave it online and started replying to counseling messages, including one about a Kadabra that would not evolve.

Ch. 57Psychic Girl, Sabrina

Jing He advised a short-tempered Psychic Girl to consider Kadabra’s needs beyond training, then calmed himself by spending time with Ice Vulpix. The chapter revealed that Sabrina’s Kadabra was being controlled by her psychic powers, and ended with a mysterious scarlet eye opening in Jing He’s mirror.

  • Jing He told Psychic Girl that Kadabra might need a change in its routine, but she logged off before answering.
  • Jing He recognized that catching Ice Vulpix had left him emotionally strained and worked to regain his composure.
  • In Saffron City, Sabrina used her psychic power to make Kadabra deny needing sleep, then wondered whether it should try sleeping anyway.
  • Gastly taught Ice Vulpix about Hypnosis, Transform, and sneaky attacks until Jing He carried Ice Vulpix off to bed.
  • After the lights went out, a scarlet eye opened in the full-length mirror, searching for someone who had failed to log in.

Ch. 58Taking That Step

Jing He took Gastly and his recovering Ice Vulpix to Canalave City’s fireworks show, encouraging Vulpix to overcome its social anxiety by taking a small step forward. The night ended with the three of them sharing wishes beneath the fireworks and Jing He hoping to travel the world with his Pokémon.

  • Jing He reminded Gastly not to pass through closed doors after seeing a notice about a thief, while Vulpix greeted him by knocking him over and using psychic power to lift him back up.
  • Jing He told Vulpix they would attend the fireworks show, reassured it when it grew anxious, and reflected that its future mattered more than its painful past.
  • Jing He brought Vulpix and Gastly through Canalave City, where Vulpix hid from strangers and Gastly frightened a little girl with a ghostly face.
  • At the riverside park, Jing He encouraged Vulpix to lift its head and take a step forward; Vulpix walked ahead just as the fireworks began.
  • Jing He, Gastly, and Vulpix watched the fireworks together and shared their wishes, with Jing He saying he wanted to travel the world with his Pokémon.

Ch. 59Invitation

Jing He received Psychic Girl’s notes on psychic training and brought Ice Vulpix to the academy, where Gastly tried to teach it hypnosis. After Du Fu invited him to give a tactical lesson alongside the Royal Masked Man, Jing He returned to find the consultation room covered in snow and Gastly looking guilty.

  • Psychic Girl told Jing He that Kadabra’s psychic power had grown after sleeping, then sent him a document about training Psychic Pokémon.
  • Jing He decided to require approval for new friends after receiving several strange messages.
  • Jing He brought Ice Vulpix to the academy, where it chilled his coffee and Gastly agreed to watch over it.
  • After Jing He left for a morning meeting, Gastly began teaching Ice Vulpix hypnosis.
  • Du Fu invited Jing He to give a tactical lesson with the Royal Masked Man, whom Jing He recognized as Doctor Kukui.
  • Jing He returned to find snow across the consultation room, Ice Vulpix standing amid it, and Gastly trembling guiltily.

Ch. 60Teaching the Way, Imparting Knowledge, and Resolving Doubts

Jing He’s Ice Vulpix accidentally filled the consultation room with snow, and Jing He, Gastly, and Vulpix turned it into a snowball fight before clearing the room. Jing He then joined Du Fu and Kukui, the Royal Masked Man, to teach a tactics class, ending as he selected a Lapras for a demonstration.

  • Ice Vulpix’s Snow Warning covered the consultation room in snow, and Jing He and Gastly started a snowball fight that Vulpix joined with an enormous snowball.
  • Jing He spent two hours clearing the room while Gastly rested and Vulpix fanned it with its tails.
  • Jing He agreed to help Du Fu teach a tactics class after learning that Kukui, the Royal Masked Man, would also be there.
  • Kukui arrived at the academy auditorium, and Gastly amused him and Du Fu by copying his pose.
  • Kukui praised Jing He’s tactics and noticed his Alolan Vulpix, while Jing He asked to speak with him about Alola after class.
  • When Kukui said he wanted to see Jing He’s tactics, Jing He picked a Poké Ball containing Lapras for a demonstration.
