Chapter Summaries

Jing He visited Po Town to obtain information from Nanu and deal with the Skull Team trouble there, then traveled through Haina Desert to meet Tapu Bulu. Tapu Bulu agreed to consider Tapu Koko’s proposal if Jing He solved two problems, beginning with scratching its back.

• Jing He arrived in Po Town, paid off two Skull Team members with seaweed, and visited Nanu for information about the Aether Foundation.
• When Skull Team members confronted Nanu over the Meowth, Jing He used Tyranitar’s Sandstorm to knock out their Pokémon, and Guzma withdrew after recognizing Jing He.
• Jing He agreed to manage the Meowth in exchange for Nanu’s map to Ice Rock and a Darkinium Z, while Gengar quickly gathered the Alolan Meowth into a disciplined group.
• Acerola met Jing He at the police station and agreed to meet him at Malie Library, while Nanu later spoke with Sakaki about Jing He and sent him Mount Lanakila’s structural plans.
• Jing He rode to the Ruins of Abundance, flew to the cliff above them on Dragonite, and found Tapu Bulu sleeping beside a lake.
• Tapu Bulu offered to consider Tapu Koko’s proposal if Jing He solved two problems, and asked him to scratch its back first.

Jing He encountered Kartana, an Ultra Beast that had been living on Ula'ula Island and challenging Tapu Bulu, and let Ceruledge fight it. Ceruledge and Kartana exchanged their strongest sword strikes, leaving both unconscious and Ceruledge badly damaged; Jing He accepted the cost of repairs as worthwhile.

• Jing He tried to find a Pokémon to scratch Tapu Bulu's itch, but Tapu Bulu grew a tree and Kartana appeared, cutting the tree apart.
• Jing He identified Kartana as UB04: Slash, while Lila and Doctor Burnet watched the live broadcast and confirmed that no Ultra Wormhole had been detected.
• Kartana fought Tapu Bulu, cutting through its body and Grassy Terrain, but Tapu Bulu healed and explained that Kartana had been challenging it for years.
• Kartana cut Gengar in half, but Gengar revealed it was unharmed, so Jing He sent Ceruledge forward to fight the Ultra Beast.
• Ceruledge and Kartana traded increasingly powerful sword attacks, and Ceruledge used Swords Dance and Solar Blade before both unleashed their strongest strikes.
• Kartana and Ceruledge knocked each other unconscious, and Jing He accepted the repair costs while asking Lila whether she would approve the bill.

Jing He persuaded Tapu Bulu to cultivate seeds, watched Snivy discover a way to accelerate a sapling’s growth, and visited Mount Lanakila with Ice Ninetales. As he headed back toward Melemele Island, he learned that Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, and Tapu Fini had gathered at the Altar of the Sunne, so he agreed to bring the sleeping Tapu Bulu to them.

• Lila approved Jing He’s request to handle Kartana, and Kartana agreed to recover and continue sparring with Ceruledge.
• Jing He asked Tapu Bulu to grow his seeds; Tapu Bulu cultivated many saplings, while Snivy used Contrary to accelerate a Berry tree’s growth.
• Jing He visited Mount Lanakila with Ice Ninetales, and Ice Ninetales chose to stay with Jing He rather than search for its family.
• Jing He collected the saplings after Tapu Bulu fell asleep from its work, then left for Melemele Island.
• Nanu asked Jing He what he had done to Tapu Bulu, and Lila showed him the other three Island Guardians gathered at the Altar of the Sunne.

Jing He and Tapu Bulu rushed to Poni Island after detecting massive Ultra Space fluctuations, where a swarm of Naganadel and Poipole overwhelmed the defenders with poison. As the Island Guardians and Trainers struggled to hold the invaders back, Jing He arrived and knocked a Naganadel out of the sky.

• Tapu Bulu told Jing He that powerful Ultra Space fluctuations were occurring around the Altar of the Sunne, and Jing He headed to Poni Island with it.
• Burnet and Lusamine detected numerous Ultra Wormholes opening above the Altar of the Sunne, while Lusamine prepared to test Poké Balls designed to catch Ultra Beasts.
• Naganadel and Poipole poured from the Ultra Wormholes and poisoned the Island Guardians and many of the defenders, forcing the Royal Masked Man and other Trainers to fight back.
• Lila called for reinforcements as the airborne Ultra Beasts pushed the defenders into a losing battle, and Hapu's Flygon was poisoned and knocked out.
• Jing He arrived with Gengar and Dragonite, and they surprised one Naganadel with Shadow Ball and Dragon Rush, knocking it from the sky.

Jing He stopped the battle between the Alola defenders and a group of Naganadel and Poipole, then negotiated safe refuge for them after learning their home in Ultra Space had become barren. The Naganadel and Poipole accepted his offer and descended for food, while Lusamine finished making a Beast Ball.

• Jing He arrived and Lila explained how the Naganadel and Poipole had attacked the Alola Region.
• Jing He and his Pokémon overwhelmed the invaders, with Gengar swallowing their Toxic and his other Pokémon striking them from the air and ground.
• Jing He approached the Naganadel Leader and learned that her group had left their resource-starved home in search of a place to survive.
• Jing He promised the Naganadel and Poipole a habitat and food, and the Naganadel Leader asked whether he could represent the humans.
• Jing He assured her that he could, offered her an Energy Cube, and watched as she called her clansmen down to accept food and medicine.
• Lusamine completed a Beast Ball and eagerly looked toward the Naganadel and Poipole.

Jing He secured a peaceful home in Alola for the Naganadel and Poipole, then received the Fairy Plate from the Island Guardians. He agreed to help protect Alola from Ultra Beasts until Solgaleo and Lunala awakened, while Bewear carried Team Rocket back across the sea.

• Jing He and the Island Kings agreed to let the Naganadel and Poipole remain in Alola, and Lila arranged for the UB Response Division to oversee them instead of Aether Paradise.
• Lusamine presented Jing He with the Aether Foundation’s new Beast Ball, but he refused to capture the Naganadel Leader, choosing to build trust instead.
• Jing He decided to house the Naganadel and Poipole on Melemele Island, then learned that Lunala had awakened in the Reverse World and that Ultra Space was becoming unstable.
• The Island Guardians returned the Fairy Plate to Jing He and asked him to protect Alola until Solgaleo and Lunala awakened; Jing He agreed to help with Ultra Beast problems.

After visiting his students and their families across Alola, Jing He joined Lana and the others on a fishing trip, where Gengar infiltrated a Wishiwashi school and Kyogre appeared. Kyogre took Lana’s hook, and Jing He prepared to battle it with Ice Ninetales and Gengar.

• Jing He gave Ice Ninetales the Fairy Plate and considered holding an internal ranking battle before Victory Road.
• Jing He visited Mallow’s family, declined Hibu and Amara’s offer of ranch Pokémon, and went fishing with Lana’s family and friends.
• Lana hooked a Wishiwashi school, while Gengar used Skill Swap to join it underwater.
• Kyogre arrived to eat the Wishiwashi, but Gengar poisoned it and it bit Lana’s hook instead.
• Jing He summoned Dragonite and Ice Ninetales, reassured Lana, and prepared to battle Kyogre as the storm broke over the sea.

Jing He and Lana fought Kyogre at sea, where Mega Gengar and Ice Ninetales defeated the poisoned Legendary Pokémon and Lana successfully caught it. After Kyogre returned to Hoenn, Jing He headed with his students to Aether Paradise for a home visit, where the island’s scenery gave him a strangely familiar feeling.

• Jing He took Lana out to sea to draw Kyogre away from Konikoni City while Ice Ninetales froze the storm and the waves.
• Ice Ninetales wielded the Fairy Plate and Mega Gengar joined it in reaching Legendary power, then they countered Kyogre’s Origin Pulse and overwhelmed it while its Toxic weakened it.
• Jing He promised to cure Kyogre’s poison, and Lana used the fishing line to pull the recovering Pokémon from the sea before Jing He fed it Pecha Berries and Energy Cubes.
• Jing He warned Kyogre that Alola might soon face Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma, so Kyogre agreed to return to Hoenn; afterward, Jing He caught a Magikarp and prepared for the next home visit.
• Jing He, Burnet Doctor, and his students traveled by helicopter to Aether Paradise, where Lillie welcomed them and Jing He felt a familiar sensation as they drove toward Lusamine’s residence.

Jing He confronted Lusamine about Lillie’s fear of Pokémon, then discovered that Faba’s unauthorized Ultra Wormhole experiment had traumatized Lillie and erased her memories. After Lillie’s family learned the truth and reunited, Jing He suspected Colress had appeared in her recovered memories.

• Faba recruited Team Rocket’s trio to clean Aether Paradise, and they slipped into the forbidden basement to search for Bewear’s child.
• Jing He challenged Lusamine about Lillie’s fear of Pokémon, and she asked him to help her enter Ultra Space before he insisted they address Lillie’s problem first.
• Gladion freed Type: Null from Faba’s laboratory, but Lillie collapsed in terror when she saw it, prompting Gladion to blame Lusamine for ignoring what had happened to her.
• Jing He used Ice Ninetales and the Rotom Pokédex to reveal that Nihilego had attacked Lillie and Faba had erased her memories; Team Rocket’s trio attacked Faba when he ordered them to cause a distraction.
• Lusamine apologized to Lillie, who recovered her memories and no longer feared Type: Null, while Jing He and Gengar suspected Colress had appeared in the memories.

Jing He returned from Alola to prepare for Hoenn's Victory Road challenge, arranging protection for the Naganadel tribe and planting new crops on his island. He began training at Canalave Pokémon Academy with a team-ranking battle, leaving the contest about to begin.

• Jing He told his Alola students he would return after challenging Victory Road, then asked Bewear to help guard the Naganadel tribe while he was away.
• Jing He declined the Naganadel Leader's offer of two warrior escorts and left Alola, while Drake told the General League meeting he expected Jing He to clear Victory Road.
• Officer Jenny announced that Jing He would be promoted to Chief Superintendent, and League representatives approved the promotion.
• Jing He returned to his island, settled four Combee, and began transplanting Berry saplings, Revival Herb sprouts, tea saplings, and other crops.

Jing He began his livestreamed Victory Road challenge after seven days of training and preparations. He entered Ascending Forest with Indeedee and Snivy, and Indeedee overwhelmed a Heracross colony, starting the challenge with ease.

• Gengar broke through into the Legendary tier, and Jing He’s Pokémon completed a new team ranking before beginning a seven-day training plan.
• Drake visited Jing He to explain Victory Road’s rules, including limits on recovery items and Pokémon items, and escorted him to the challenge.
• Jing He climbed the stairs at the Lilycove Grand Festival Venue and entered Victory Road as spectators and viewers watched the livestream.
• Jing entered Ascending Forest with Indeedee and Snivy; Snivy sensed the forest’s aura and began glowing with Forest Blessing.
• A Heracross charged Jing He, but Indeedee used Psychic Terrain and Expanding Force to pin the entire Heracross colony to the ground.

Jing He and his Pokémon fought through Victory Road, where Snivy’s growing bond with the forest helped it defeat Slaking and evolve into Servine. After Servine rested, Jing He continued onward as Drake prepared a greater challenge.

• Jing He’s Snivy and Indeedee defeated a powerful Hydreigon, then used their boosted Special Attack to sweep through groups of wild Pokémon.
• As Snivy battled in the forest, Jing He sensed its connection to the woods strengthening and realized it was receiving a Forest Blessing.
• In Sleeping Forest, Snivy challenged Slaking while Indeedee fought off the Vigoroth, but Slaking’s strength and control over Truant sent Snivy flying and forced Jing He to catch it.
• Snivy drew on the forest’s power to strengthen its Energy Ball attacks and defeated Slaking, then evolved into Servine.
• Jing He recalled the exhausted Servine and continued onward, while Drake decided to prepare a bigger surprise for him.

Jing He and his Pokémon battled through Rubble Forest, where wild Pokémon repeatedly used Explosion, then defeated Drake’s gigantic Champion-level Salamence with Mega Tyranitar’s Precipice Blades. After resting overnight at Crescent Bay, Jing He entered the Elite Four Fortress, where the real Victory Road challenge began.

• Jing He picnicked in Rubble Forest, where Tyranitar accidentally startled a Golem and triggered a chain of explosions that forced Jing He, Indeedee, and Tyranitar to flee.
• Drake’s enormous Salamence attacked Jing He, and Mega Tyranitar defeated it with Precipice Blades after using Dragon Dance and receiving Indeedee’s Helping Hand.
• Jing He reached Crescent Bay, rested in a natural hot spring, and told Cynthia he would face the Elite Four the next day.
• Jing He slept in, recovered his strength, and entered the Elite Four Fortress as Sidney, Fu Rong, Bonnie, and Drake prepared to challenge him.

Jing He began his Victory Road challenge by battling Elite Four Sidney, whose four Pokémon tested Urshifu with disruptive tactics and powerful attacks. Urshifu defeated all four, including Mega Absol, and Jing He entered the second room after treating its injuries.

• Sidney opened the battle with Grimmsnarl, but Jing He’s Urshifu broke through Fake Out and Thunder Wave, predicted Reflect, and forced Grimmsnarl to retreat with Parting Shot.
• Sidney sent out Mightyena, which Urshifu defeated with Close Combat despite taking damage from Play Rough.
• Urshifu overcame Sharpedo’s Rough Skin by grabbing it and knocking it out with Dynamic Punch.
• Sidney Mega Evolved Absol and used Perish Song, but Urshifu found it through Double Team and defeated it with a combination of Single Strike and Rapid Strike attacks.
• Sidney conceded after Urshifu swept all four of his Pokémon, and Jing He rested and treated Urshifu’s injuries before entering the second room.

Jing He’s Dragonite defeated Fu Rong’s first three Pokémon before Dusknoir weakened it with Burn, and Jing He switched to Tyranitar for the final matchup. Mega Tyranitar overcame Mega Sableye and won Fu Rong’s battle, leaving the Elite Four Fortress damaged and Fu Rong insisting that the outcome was not scientific.

• Fu Rong thanked Jing He for helping Hoenn and Mt. Pyre before beginning their six-versus-four battle with Sableye, while Jing He sent out Dragonite.
• Fu Rong used Sableye’s Fake Out and Taunt, then switched to Banette, whose Trick gave Dragonite a Choice Scarf; Dragonite used the speed boost to knock out Banette with Dragon Rush.
• Fu Rong sent out Chandelure, but Dragonite struck it down with another Dragon Rush before it could use Trick Room effectively.
• Fu Rong’s Dusknoir used Trick Room and Will-O-Wisp to Burn Dragonite, but Dragonite endured the effects and defeated Dusknoir with Dragon Rush.
• Fu Rong returned her recovered Sableye to the field, while Jing He recalled the weakened Dragonite and sent out Tyranitar; both Trainers Mega Evolved their Pokémon.
• Mega Tyranitar endured Mega Sableye’s attacks, broke its gemstone with Crunch, and defeated it, prompting Fu Rong to remark that the result was not scientific.

Jing He battled Elite Four Bonnie in Victory Road, using Ceruledge and Armarouge against her Ice-type team. Bonnie’s Mega Glalie knocked Armarouge out with Explosion, but the blast awakened its Life Fire further, leaving Bonnie impressed by Jing He’s strength.

• Jing He treated Dragonite and Tyranitar after his battle with Fu Rong, then entered the third Battle Room to face Bonnie.
• Jing He’s Ceruledge defeated Bonnie’s Walrein after Sunny Day weakened her Snow Team’s defenses and water attacks.
• Bonnie sent out Alolan Sandslash, but Jing He switched to Armarouge, which defeated it with Armor Cannon.
• Bonnie Mega Evolved Glalie and ordered it to use Explosion against Armarouge.
• Jing He warned Armarouge in time to form a Psychic-Aura Barrier, but Armarouge still lost the ability to battle as its Life Fire grew more vigorous.

Jing He defeated Bonnie and began his final Victory Road battle against Drake, whose Champion-level Pokémon tested Jing He’s strength. Tinkaton knocked out Kommo-o, and after Drake switched from Flygon to Archaludon, Ice Ninetales survived a Flash Cannon following Geocontrol, leaving Drake wondering if it was Legendary.

• Jing He defeated Bonnie at the cost of Ceruledge, and Bonnie urged him to show Drake his full strength.
• Drake opened their battle with Champion-level Kommo-o, which used Dragon Dance while Tinkaton answered with Fake Out and Swords Dance.
• Tinkaton and Kommo-o traded devastating attacks, but Tinkaton’s Gigaton Hammer and Play Rough combination defeated Kommo-o.
• Drake sent out Flygon, and Jing He answered with Ice Ninetales, whose Blizzard froze and weakened Flygon’s Fire Blast.
• Drake switched Flygon for Archaludon, and Ice Ninetales used Geocontrol before surviving Archaludon’s Flash Cannon, prompting Drake to exclaim that it was Legendary.

Jing He defeated Drake in the final Victory Road battle and officially became the Hoenn League Champion. The chapter ended with Jing He registering his Pokémon in the Hall of Fame as the audience celebrated his victory.

• Ice Ninetales used Moonblast to knock out Drake's Archaludon, and Flygon was also unable to defeat it.
• Drake sent out Salamence and Mega Evolved it, while Jing He recalled Ice Ninetales and brought out Gengar.
• Jing He Mega Evolved Gengar, which defeated Mega Salamence after the two Pokémon clashed with powerful attacks.
• The Rotom Referee declared Jing He the winner, and Drake congratulated him as the new Champion.
• Jing He registered all ten of his Pokémon in the Hall of Fame and took a commemorative photo with them.

Jing He was inaugurated as Hoenn’s Champion, then attended his first Elite Four meeting, where Bonnie pressed him to take on League duties and Drake revealed he was expected to compete in the Pokémon World Championship. Back in his office, Jing He celebrated his new income and saw Ceruledge’s Life Fire had grown stronger.

• Jing He accepted the Champion’s cape after defeating Hoenn’s Elite Four, and he received congratulations from his students and Cynthia.
• Bonnie gave Jing He a Master Ball, Sacred Ash, and Ice and Poison Z-Crystals before he convened an Elite Four meeting.
• Jing He studied the Elite Four’s assignments, agreed to delay redistributing their work until after handling the Alola UB incident, and canceled his Champion Celebration.
• Bonnie and Drake revealed that Jing He had agreed to represent Hoenn in the Pokémon World Championship, which would take place across Galar and Paldea.

• Jing He left Steven Stone to handle Champion duties and wrote and approved his own application for an island research project.
• A Level One alert revealed that Groudon and Kyogre had met at sea and were about to fight, so Jing He went to calm them down.
• Jing He hosted a tea party, divided Hoenn into activity zones for Groudon and Kyogre, and gave each a tracker; Tyranitar and Gengar then secretly shared Energy Cubes with them.
• Botan showed Jing He Shakia's final message, which said they were in trouble, and explained that she could no longer locate her sister in the Crown Tundra.
• Jing He took Botan aboard the Hoenn League's private plane to Galar so they could find out what had happened to Shakia and Peony.
