But unlike Dream Mazes, which blended together the remnants left behind by countless collapsed dream worlds and trapped people within nearly endless lost spaces, Dream Turbulence was a distortion on the level of time.

From the outside, Dream Turbulence resembled a river glittering with starlight. Yet what flowed within it were chaotic fragments of dreams.

Those who fell into it had to endure the scouring of ancient dreams that had once existed throughout the history of the Deep Dream World.

One moment, they might be swimming through the dream of a colossal ocean beast from the ancient Dark Era, surrounded by dark, freezing seawater. The next, they could be standing in the heart of a scorching desert countless millennia after humanity had vanished, gazing up at the pale Blazing Sun through the eyes of a lizard-like creature.

At the same time, time within these Dream Turbulences did not flow forward at a constant rate. It could speed up or slow down unpredictably, even approaching complete stillness. Naturally, all of this was relative to the time axis outside.

For Ninth Rank Experts, most of whom had contingencies closely tied to their existence left in the outside world—Avatars, life anchors, rebirth Rituals, and the like—none of this was fatal. It was merely troublesome to escape.

However, the Dream Turbulence into which the Floating City had fallen had actually been actively condensed by Anvis using Dream Turbulence Summoning, an Eighth Rank Secret Art recorded in the materials of the Dream Inheritance Land. It differed somewhat from naturally formed Dream Turbulence.
