In the dense woods not far from the beach, the Tuner's original body sat hidden against a large tree. Suddenly, he drew a long, sharp breath and sat upright.
This was his true body, so some of his mental power could not leave it. He had not yet cultivated the "Severance Shedding" stage of the Aspect of the Gods.
But the Aspect of the Gods he could send out from his body had been destroyed, dealing him a devastating blow. The sliver of mental power left behind was now so weak it could barely sustain his existence, let alone fight. If he turned and left now, he might still have a chance of escaping.
Perhaps, with secret medicines and enough nourishment, he could recover a little fighting strength after he returned. This body was, after all, that of a genuine Fighter.
But he chose not to.
Once upright, he used the Reverse Convergence Secret Method. His once-robust body shriveled rapidly, and before long he looked like a desiccated corpse.
For a Fighter with an Aspect of the Gods, mental power was the foundation of everything. By swiftly drawing every bit of nourishment and energy from this body, he could make up for a small part of what his Aspect had lost. Only the true body he had cultivated all along could serve this purpose, because the two were fundamentally one.
After such a crushing setback, though, he could never return to his former strength. At most, he could recover a little ability to fight.
Before long, the body had withered completely. A vague, wavering figure emerged from it, faint spiritual light flickering around its edges.
A Fighter with an Aspect of the Gods could still fight without a body, but without sufficient mastery, he posed little threat. The Tuner did
