Power Progression
Documented development of Chen Chuan’s Mutated Tissue.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Nurturing True Seed / First Limit | 65, 100 | Growth began from Mutated Fascia, spreading into muscles and beneath the skin. It linked bones and muscles to transmit force, and later approached the theoretical First Limit. 65 100 |
| Second Limit | 145, 146 | Elixir Water and the Guarding and Storing Breathing Method awakened tissue within the five viscera and six bowels. Internal-organ mutation substantially improved Chen Chuan’s strength, speed, and force control. 145 146 |
| Third Limit | 377, 378 | By this stage, the body’s “shell” had developed a crack, allowing special medicine to draw the spirit closer to the Other Side; this also exposed the tissue to contamination and uncontrolled activity. 377 378 |
| Fourth Limit | 792 | Chen Chuan’s breakthrough granted access to memories connected to his body’s past and gave him the strength to investigate them safely. 792 |
| Longevity Observation Realm | 1013 | His Mutated Tissue underwent a major transformation, becoming finer, fibrous, spiral, and faintly luminous. It could produce Purple Qi and sustain combat even if his spiritual connection was severed. 1013 |
Background
Old Era sects considered the development of Mutated Tissue the true beginning of a martial path and the foundation for higher fighting arts. Continuous, uninterrupted growth was reportedly uncommon in that era; growth became more prevalent after the Algae Liquid Revolution. 50
Modern cultivation can stimulate or suppress Mutated Tissue through surgery and medicine. Native tissue remains preferable to transplanted tissue because it develops as part of the host rather than as a foreign addition. 50 236
Biology and Development
Mutated Tissue develops gradually inside a host rather than appearing all at once. In Chen Chuan’s case, it first emerged as fascia, then extended into muscles as interconnected strands that could pull, bind, and generate force. 65 317
Mutated Fascia attaches to bones and muscles; as it spreads, it strengthens the skeleton so the body can endure greater force. This process is known in Old Martial terminology as “building tendon bridges, raising bone beams.” 65
Coverage alone is not enough. Broad but scattered tissue grants adaptability across basic techniques, while integrated training is necessary to prevent individual portions from remaining weak or being abandoned during specialized techniques. 651
Mutated Tissue requires substantial nutrition to remain functional, effectively acting as an additional set of organs within the body. 1341
Properties and Functions
Force Transmission and Reinforcement
Mutated Tissue contracts and relaxes in coordination, transmitting strength through the body layer by layer. Properly directed tissue can gather into a near-membranous defensive layer, though specialized development is required for a truly solid protective membrane. 65
- Reinforces bones, muscles, tendons, and internal organs as it grows. 65 145
- Compresses and twists to increase the force behind a strike. 235
- Disperses incoming impacts throughout the body rather than allowing force to concentrate at one point. 141 481
- Can be coordinated directly with a Mutated Weapon, allowing the weapon to function as an extension of the host’s body. 200
Breathing-Based Control
Breathing methods direct the growth, activation, and restraint of Mutated Tissue. Chen Chuan used breathing to prevent uncontrolled growth and to guide tissue toward desired areas. 102 145
- The Breath Regulation Method promotes the spread of Mutated Fascia and enables force exertion. 46
- The Internal Breathing Attraction Guidance Technique allows mutated organs and subcutaneous tissue to exchange gases without using the mouth or nose. 166
- Force-control and breathing techniques reduce the vulnerable interval when different sets of tissue switch during combat. 287
Adaptation and Regeneration
Under severe pressure, Mutated Tissue can become highly active, reinforce damaged areas, and adapt to a host’s combat needs. 316 1176
- High-level tissue can rapidly repair damaged bones and flesh, though regeneration requires energy and can be disrupted. 769 1080
- Specialized tissue may be deliberately cultivated to support a particular combat style, at the cost of narrowing future development. 1176 1279
- At sufficiently advanced levels, tissue and Mental Power may become integrated enough for even partial remains to regenerate a body. 1099
Sensory and Interference Applications
Specialized Mutated Tissue can perceive a target’s internal rhythms and interfere with their physical functions. Du Ma’s Karma Pulse Studies allowed him to sense blood flow, breathing, and force circulation, then disrupt opponents by throwing their breathing rhythm into disorder. 123
Cultivation Resources
- Medicinal stimulation — Elixir Water, pills, and specialized medicines can activate or accelerate growth, particularly in internal organs. Residual medicinal power can also damage tissue if overused. 145 280 311
- Radiant Light — Irradiation increases the activity of Mutated Tissue and strengthens bones, muscles, and fascia. 265 278
- Nutrient Paste and high-energy tissue — High-energy nutrients sustain growth and recovery after intense exertion or combat. 820 1173
- Combat and external pressure — Prolonged battle, physical compression, and life-threatening situations can force tissue into rapid adaptation or breakthrough. 316 762 1215
- Anomalies and strange tales — Contact with anomalous phenomena can stimulate growth, though such exposure carries unknown long-term risks. 111 140
Artificial Modification and Transplantation
Mutated Tissue can be transplanted from one Fighter to another to expand a recipient’s mutated-organ coverage. Such tissue is less effective than tissue naturally grown by the recipient and may cause aftereffects; unauthorized private transplantation is illegal. 236
Graft implantation technology can cultivate tissue through a related Mutated Creature before transplanting it back into the intended organism. This can grant tissue to organisms incapable of developing it naturally, but may harm the circulatory system and require long-term conditioning. 503
- Implant Bodies can replace part of Mutated Tissue’s combat function, improving force output and movement. 615
- Post-birth cultivation initially produces relatively balanced tissue; later training and medication determine its specialized development path. 512
- Follow-up maintenance is essential, as poorly maintained cultivated tissue can enter a malignant state rather than benefiting its host. 506
Notable Variants
- Purple Qi Mutated Tissue — A refined, unusual form within Chen Chuan that exists between substance and nonexistence. It produces Purple Qi, provides an additional energy source, supports force penetration, and can remain active even when spiritual support is unavailable. 1013 1176
- Mutated Weapon Tissue — The Snow Monarch Blade contains Mutated Tissue that can resonate with and be driven alongside Chen Chuan’s own tissue after prolonged coordination. 200 745
- Regeneration Membrane — A specialized membrane that seals wounds, protects damaged areas, and secretes high-energy substances to accelerate healing. 587
Risks and Limitations
- Stagnation and decline — When external stimulation ceases, Mutated Tissue may enter dormancy, stagnation, and eventually decline into inactivity. 256
- Uncontrolled growth — Improperly directed tissue can grow along disordered pathways, creating hidden long-term defects. 102 145
- Drug toxicity — Repeated medicinal stimulation can injure both the tissue and surrounding body parts. 311 564
- Transition gaps — Switching between separate sets of tissue creates brief combat openings because both sets still rely on the same muscles and bones. 287
- Contamination — Other Side erosion can force a Fighter into Variant Appearance, progressively corrupting their body until they mutate into a demon-ghost. 1112
- Purity Spirit Light — This secret transmission can dissolve and break down Mutated Tissue, including tissue protected by Spiritual Fire. 1045 1080
Known Hosts and Manifestations
- Chen Chuan — Developed Mutated Fascia through the Breath Regulation Method, later expanding his tissue into internal organs and ultimately cultivating Purple Qi Mutated Tissue. 65 145 1013
- Du Ma — Used specialized Mutated Tissue through Karma Pulse Studies to perceive and disrupt opponents’ breathing, blood flow, and force circulation. 123
- Zhao Ming — Underwent commercial cultivation intended to stimulate healthy, viable Mutated Tissue and improve vitality. 503 506
- Puppet / Blood Staff — A damaged combat puppet whose body was repaired and overtaken by artificially stimulated Mutated Tissue; later transformations granted rapid healing and increasing combat strength. 1075 1215
- Krosal — Possessed highly regenerative tissue that continued attempting to restore his body even after decapitation, until Purity Spirit Light repeatedly destroyed the regenerating tissue. 1169
