"Minister, the reporters have arrived."
Percy Weasley stood by the door, watching Fudge sit behind his desk with his fingers interlaced, looking utterly listless. He raised a hand and lightly knocked on the office's wooden door as a reminder.
"I know."
Cornelius Fudge rose wearily and headed out of his office.
Honestly, Fudge had no desire whatsoever to face that swarm of fly-like reporters. But as the current Minister of Magic, he had no choice but to offer everyone a reasonable explanation for Amelia Bones's death.
"An explanation?"
"Bloody hell!"
Fudge himself had yet to figure out what exactly had happened.
A few hours earlier, he had been woken from sleep and informed that Amelia Bones had been murdered.
What did they mean by Lord Voldemort himself was suspected of doing it?
The Aurors had not given him a reasonable explanation, so how was he supposed to explain it to the reporters?
Was he meant to tell them Amelia Bones had been personally killed by Lord Voldemort?
Anyone with half a brain knew what would happen if he said that.
What the entire British magical world truly cared about was not Bones's death itself, but the fact that she had been murdered by Death Eaters despite being under heavy Auror protection.
The Ministry of Magic's authority would be questioned again. Yet that was not even the most frightening part. After this, people would think that if Bones could be murdered while under Auror protection, how could their own safety possibly be guaranteed? Wizards living in fear would only vent their anger on the Ministry of Magic, and as Minister of Magic, Fudge would undoubtedly bear the brunt of it. After all, this had happened during his term in office.
