In the stillness of midnight, a figure appeared out of thin air at the street corner. He was an elderly man, dressed in robes utterly out of place with his surroundings. The old man took a Silver Lighter from his robe pocket, flicked it open, and held it high. The nearest streetlamp went out with a soft pop. Before long, the entire street was once again shrouded in silent darkness.
The old man looked around, making sure no one was nearby before heading toward a filthy alley close by. The foul stench coming from it made him frown slightly. He stepped into the alley and soon stopped before an old house, reaching out to knock gently on the door.
Several seconds later, there was movement behind the door, and then it opened a crack.
"Oh, bloody hell, your letter nearly scared me into running for it. What could possibly be so urgent that you had to come find me in person?" Mundungus opened the door and complained at the elderly man outside.
"We'd best not talk here," Dumbledore said with a smile.
"Right, come in first."
Mundungus hurriedly stepped back, clearing the doorway and inviting Dumbledore inside.
After Dumbledore entered, Mundungus cautiously poked his head outside to scan the surroundings. Only after making sure no one was there did he close the door again.
Though Mundungus knew there was little chance anyone had tailed him, he could not risk letting others know he was in contact with Dumbledore. Otherwise, the Death Eaters might come knocking one day.
"If it's anything dangerous, don't come looking for me," Mundungus said uneasily, looking at Dumbledore and asking why he had come.
"Don't be nervous. I only came to confirm something and ask around for some information." Dumbledore gestured for Mundungus to sit down
