The House-elves, usually busy all day long, had unusually not gone to wash the dishes after the meal. Instead, they gathered around a dining table in a cleared corner, whispering about the major event that was about to unfold at Hogwarts.
Although one House-elf suggested that they join the fight, Kara—the House-elf Albert had taken from Hogwarts—quickly rejected the proposal. Albert believed the House-elves had more important work to do than join the battle, and that work was also a crucial piece of the path to victory.

The House-elf stared at the hands of his pocket watch, then nervously looked around as though searching for something.
With a loud crack of Apparition, Dobby, who had never been particularly welcome among the House-elves, appeared out of thin air in the kitchen. He carried a suitcase slightly too large for him, and after confirming that the surroundings were safe, he could not help but breathe a sigh of relief.
