As night fell, the wind and snow outside gradually intensified.
The Defence Against the Dark Arts office was still lit. Cedric sat behind his desk, marking the homework collected that day, but his gaze often drifted toward the clock on the wall, as though he were waiting for someone to visit.
Before the hand reached nine, the office fireplace suddenly flared with eerie green Fiendfyre, and a figure stepped out of the flames.
"Good evening."
Seeing someone in his office, the man froze slightly before smiling and greeting Cedric behind the desk.
"The armchair here digs right into your arse. I'd bet you've hardly ever sat in it," Cedric grumbled as he set down his Quill and greeted the visitor.
"My last armchair was riddled with woodworm, then I accidentally sat it to pieces, so I had the House-elves replace it," Albert said with a smile, ignoring Cedric's look. "I haven't sat in this one yet."
"Then I suggest you replace it again, or get yourself a cushion," Cedric complained. "This bloody chair is horribly uncomfortable."
"I need to see Headmistress McGonagall first. We can talk about our business later." Albert did not respond to that. He knew why Cedric had come to his office so late, but Albert had another appointment. After glancing at the clock, he headed out.
As for the new armchair, he decided to find time to make a cushion for it. It was rarely used anyway, so it only needed to be sturdy enough to withstand rough treatment.
At nine that evening, Albert knocked punctually on the door to the Hogwarts Headmaster's Office.
