When Albert turned his head to sneak a Hard Candy, he spotted Miss Field, whom he had met at the Transfiguration Club, sitting not far away.
Noticing his gaze, she looked over as well and happened to catch Albert unwrapping the candy. She winked at him, seemingly wanting to laugh, but since they were still in the library, neither of them spoke.
Albert popped the candy into his mouth, picked up his essay, walked over, and sat beside Field. After quietly greeting her—
Careful, or Mrs. Pince will throw you out, Field mouthed.
"Just don't let her see us!" Albert said carelessly, handing her a few Hard Candies. "Besides, these are hard candies. Keep one in your mouth and no one will notice. Want one?"
"Go on, what do you need from me?" Field saw right through Albert. If he had not needed something, he probably would not have come over to find her.
"It's like this."
Albert pointed to the parts of his parchment that had been altered messily, then explained his idea for copying and pasting text.
When he finished, Albert noticed that Field, who was unwrapping a candy, was looking at him with a strange expression.
She muttered softly, "Just how lazy does someone have to be to want to invent magic like that?"
"Laziness makes people more creative, doesn't it?" Albert winked at Field and continued, "Weren't spells invented to make things easier?"
"You're incredible." Field stared at Albert for a while, deeply curious how he could still have the nerve to say something like that in his own defense.
"But I can't help with your idea. Still, for the sake of these..." Field waved the candy wrapper and said, "I can tell you how to alter writing.
