Speculation and Possibilities

"Sirius Black broke into Gryffindor Tower with a knife, intending to assassinate Harry Potter?"

Albert covered a yawn with his hand as he listened to Fred, George, and Lee Jordan recount what had happened in the middle of the night. Tilting his head, he looked at the intact Portrait Passage and asked, "How exactly did Black break into the Gryffindor Common Room without the password?"

"Longbottom wrote the password on a slip of paper, then lost it. Black found it." Lee Jordan pulled out a handful of Toad Mints from his robe pocket and passed them around. He unwrapped one and popped it into his mouth, saying indistinctly, "You weren't there, so you didn't see how angry Professor McGonagall was. She was so furious her voice was shaking."

"A while ago, Longbottom did seem to mention that he'd lost the slip with the password on it." Albert stroked Tom, who was dozing beside the table, then looked around the crowded Common Room. "Anyway, you lot must have been up all night. Why aren't you going back to catch up on sleep? Waiting here to hear whether Black was caught?"

"Yeah, everyone's waiting for news. Do you think Black can still get away?" Fred brought over a cup of rich, milky hot tea, along with a small plate of Custard Biscuits left over from the night before.

"There's little chance of catching Black." Albert answered without hesitation. "If the professors really could catch him, I'm sure you'd have heard about it immediately."

"What I'm more curious about is why Black didn't kill Ron to silence him, then keep looking for Harry," George said, voicing his doubt.

"Do you really want your brother to be killed by Black?" Lee Jordan could not help rolling his eyes.
