Dongfang Sansan was the thirty-third child of Dongfang Chongming, the previous-generation Chaos Hammer and fifth-ranked expert on the Cloud Top Weapon Compendium. Her father had seventy-nine children and, after exhausting conventional names, assigned numerical names to his later children regardless of gender. Dongfang Sansan later encouraged the more elegant explanation that her name represented “three times three” and thus nine; this became the basis for her title, Ninth Master. 51

Her family suffered a devastating loss when her parents and more than a dozen elder siblings went to guard Black Sky Divine Cliff and encountered Yue Wushen. Only her severely wounded father returned. 1351

For years, she has held together the Guardians’ resistance against the Sole True Sect. Her deployments exploit gaps in enemy operations, concentrate superior numbers where needed, and have prevented the Guardians from collapsing despite the sect’s rapid rise. 51
