GOD-1567
The girl sat upright in a wooden chair, her long legs in skinny jeans gently pressed together. Her delicate, pretty face was so pale it almost seemed to glow, while her silky high ponytail, reaching down to her waist, swayed lightly.
She placed her right hand over her ample conscience and introduced herself with a smile. "My name is Wu Youqing."
"You as in childish, Qing as in sunny day."
Xue Jing introduced himself as well. "Xue Jing. Xue with the jade radical, Jing as in scenery."
"Mm... first of all, how did you come across the concept of a 'God Relic'?" Wu Youqing asked curiously.
"...Sorry, I can't say." Xue Jing shook his head.
Maomao was probably still being hunted by Kangde Security Company. He definitely could not casually reveal its information.
"I can only tell you that I have indeed encountered a God Relic. If possible, I hope you can provide me with information related to God Relics."
Xue Jing chose his words carefully.
"Of course. It's fine if you don't want to say. Since I can't provide information first, that's my problem."
Wu Youqing showed no dissatisfaction with Xue Jing's vague explanation. She pinched her chin and tilted her head. "Then was the God Relic you encountered an artifact type or a biological type?"
"There are biological God Relics too?" Xue Jing asked in surprise.
That indirectly answered Wu Youqing's question. She nodded. "Looks like you encountered an artifact type."
After saying that, the girl thought for a moment, stood up, walked to the wall of the lounge area, and crouched down. She pulled out an inconspicuous wooden handle set into the wall.
There was actually a concealed cabinet built into the wall.
Because of her crouching posture, the curve of the girl's rear was extremely pronounced. Framed by her slender waist, its presence was exceptionally striking, and Xue Jing could not help sneaking another couple of glances.
Skinny jeans really were a fine invention.
He had thought Wu Youqing would take some secret documents from such a well-hidden spot, but instead, she clattered out a whole set of tea ware and a transparent kettle full of water, placing them on the wooden table.
"Do you prefer tea or coffee?" Wu Youqing asked as she wiped the tea ware with a cloth.
"Are those the only two choices?" Xue Jing looked toward the hidden compartment.
"There's also this." The girl turned around and took out a 330ml modern can of Coca-Cola from the compartment.
Although this world had taken a different historical path from Earth in his previous life, the things that ought to exist still existed.
Xue Jing reached for it. "I'll have that."
But Wu Youqing did not hand it to him. Instead, she took a blue-patterned, gold-plated porcelain cup from the tea tray, popped open the can with a snap, poured the black carbonated liquid into the exquisite cup, then slid it in front of Xue Jing with two fingers like a bartender.
Xue Jing's lips twitched. "Fancy."
The girl did not reply. She took out a packet of tea leaves from some unknown brand, tore it open, poured the leaves into the teapot, then picked up the transparent kettle and poured in water—the water was actually hot. Who knew when it had been boiled? The moment it met the air, steam continuously rose from it.
As she went through the steps of brewing tea, Wu Youqing spoke. "Two hundred and eighty-seven years ago, 'God' died."
"Or, to put it more rigorously, a 'god' died."
Xue Jing listened quietly.
Death of God was the greatest event in this world's recorded history. Even after so much time had passed, people still spoke of it with relish.
But in the end, there was no way to confirm whether the dead "God" had truly been the omniscient and omnipotent Lord from Christianity's Bible. Therefore, the officially recognized term throughout the world was Death of God.
"God" was this world's god. It had no name; it was simply "God" as conceived by humanity. All other names had been imposed upon it by humans themselves.
It could be called God, Allah, Brahma, or, if one wished, Yuanshi Tianzun.
The reason it was most commonly called God was merely because Christianity's concept of God had deeply taken root in people's hearts and, comparatively speaking, best matched the definition of "God."
Two hundred and eighty-seven years ago, "God" appeared in the material world for the first and last time.
According to historical records, on that day, every human on Earth Star personally saw—or rather, observed through some unknown means—a gigantic glowing humanoid holding Earth Star in both hands. After letting out a massive, mournful wail, it scattered into countless specks of light.
At that moment, the three words "God is dead" were branded into every human consciousness like a mental steel seal.
It was also from that day onward that the Two Worlds Overlapping Phenomenon began occurring on this planet from time to time. After stages such as World Tremors, Weak Overlaps, and Strong Overlaps, various Intersection Zones came into being.
The emergence of Intersection Zones brought humanity countless opportunities and crises.
The current administrative divisions of Zhu Xia's nine major metropolitan regions were historical remnants of an Intersection Zone crisis.
"What most people don't know is that at the moment 'God' died, it left some things behind."
Wu Youqing stirred the liquid in her teacup with a small spoon and began explaining the origins of God Relics.
"The specks of light that scattered when God died... let us call them the Blood of God for now."
"This Blood of God fell across the world and took up residence in all kinds of things."
"They could be objects, living creatures, or even a fragment of human fantasy..."
"We call things that have been inhabited and transformed by the Blood of God—God Relics."
Xue Jing was absorbed in her account when Wu Youqing slid a cup of brewed tea in front of him as well.
"Try it."
Xue Jing took it, somewhat distractedly lifted the cup, took a small sip, and swallowed.
Then he immediately frowned and looked at the tea in the cup.
The brownish-red liquid was clearly Black Tea by appearance, and its faintly bitter fragrance was that of Black Tea as well.
But once it entered his mouth, it carried a strange sweetness.
"What is this?"
"Guess," Wu Youqing said. Her eyes were sly, as though she took a little pride in successfully teasing him.
For some reason, Xue Jing instinctively said, "Don't tell me it's 'Youqing Tea'..."
The moment the words left his mouth, he immediately realized they were somewhat inappropriate. But a beautiful girl like Wu Youqing probably did not know much about such things, so surely she would not understand what he meant...
Before he could finish defending himself in his mind, he saw a blush appear on Wu Youqing's pretty face. She looked at him strangely, as if saying: I didn't expect you to be this kind of Xue Jing...
Xue Jing gave a light cough. "Stop keeping me in suspense, sis."
Wu Youqing rolled her eyes at him. She held up the transparent kettle with one hand and supported its bottom with the other as she introduced it. "Serial number GOD-1567: Sweet Water Kettle."
A God Relic? A God Relic! Divinity Substance, right before his eyes!
