Background / History

Li Qi was once a prominent Old Martial Artist active in Jade City and the Inner Ring. During his youth, he joined the Dragon Sect, became close to Ning Fengwan's grandfather, and fell in love with Ning Fengwan's grandmother; he later described their connection as having nearly made him Ning Fengwan's grandfather. 31 32

In his prime, Li Qi was known as Dragon King Li and was considered the leading member of Jade City's “Three Heroes,” alongside Zhou Liexiong of the Diamond Wishful Hand and Chen Buyan of the Asura Blade. The three frequently exchanged martial arts, and Li Qi developed the Hidden Dragon Style's Turning Golden Scales and Whirlwind Thunder with significant reference to Zhou's methods of Moving Strength. 90 269

Li Qi eventually crossed the Dragon Gate and became a Breaking Limits martial artist. In middle age, however, he accepted a challenge from the then-unknown Wan Yulai, later holder of the True Dragon title. Wan defeated him decisively, shattered the “Dragon” Li Qi had cultivated, and broke his legs. Unable to maintain consciousness within his body afterward, Li Qi lost his Breaking Limits state and began to age. 73 268 269

Following his decline, Li Qi continued the Hidden Dragon Style through the Hidden Dragon Dojo. His meeting with Xue Jing gave him a disciple whose balanced physique and rapid progress he considered uniquely suited to the style's “hexagon” ideal. 32

Xue Jing's explanation of spiritual power interfering with self-reality gave Li Qi a new framework for understanding his past cultivation. Later, Xue Jing used Empowerment to impart the Nirvana Skill to him, restoring some vitality, darkening portions of his hair, and helping heal his damaged inner “Dragon.” 110 321

Appearance

Li Qi is an elderly, wheelchair-bound man with a thin, withered frame, cloudy eyes, and a conspicuous balding “Mediterranean” hairstyle. Following his recovery through the Nirvana Skill, his complexion became rosier and some of his white hair darkened. 32 184 321
