Talent Test
Ningdong Explorer Academy, Gymnasium.
More than two hundred freshmen from four classes, Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D, gathered here.
This is the venue for the Subject Two of the entrance exam. However, the Mechanical Puppet and arena have been removed and replaced with various physical examination equipment, most of which are routine instruments. There is also an area separated by curtains, presumably for more private examinations.
None of this was surprising; Luo Jun had seen it in middle school. The only thing that was different was the two enormous treasures placed near the side door, which Luo Jun had never seen before.
Both of these treasures have very unique designs. One of them resembles a Great Bell with copper pipes attached to it, eventually converging into a small Display Screen.
According to the instructor, this instrument can measure a person's Innate Potential. The Great Bell can be opened, and the test subject can enter inside. After the lid is closed, through a series of inexplicable principles, the instrument will measure a person's Innate Potential and ultimately produce a numerical value, which will be displayed on the Display Screen.
The other Noble Phantasm is a chair with various conduits connected to it, and a helmet on top with a small Display Screen.
This thing looks somewhat like an electric chair used for electrocution. When it's used, a person sits on it, with tubes connected to their limbs and a helmet on their head. Then, their vital energy is activated, and their spirituality is measured, with the values displayed on the helmet's Display Screen.
Luo Jun wasn't afraid of having his spirituality tested; it was basically normal. The key issue was his Root Bone... His current Innate Potential was thirty times greater than the average person's. If that were detected, wouldn't it cause an uproar?
This is no longer just a matter of Body Tempering Art. You have to understand that in Lao Deng's mind, his Root Bone is only five or six times that of an ordinary person. If this were measured, it wouldn't even be explained by his extraordinary talent. He would be suspected of having a way to increase his Innate Potential, and the existence of the Dice of Heavenly Secrets might even be exposed.
"Yes, yes..." Luo Jun replied with a smile, "Senior, could you please tell me the measuring principles of these two instruments?"
Luo Jun doesn't have much time left...
Thinking of this, Luo Jun quietly moved closer.
"Why ask that?" Senior Sister Miao shrugged. "Don't even mention me, even the Dean probably wouldn't know... As for Noble Phantasms, who can explain their working principle?"
To make matters worse, in order to speed up the measurement process, the four classes started with different items. The first item for the other classes was the usual items like height, weight, and blood pressure, but Class C was assigned only height and Root Bone.
In an effort to find a solution, he deliberately lined up at the back of the class to see how things went.
"I'm so glad you still remember me, Senior," Luo Jun said with a smile. It seemed that Senior Sister Miao had a good impression of him.
"Senior Sister Miao?"
Luo Jun nodded and continued, "So what's the typical spiritual Root Bone? How is it displayed?"
"Come on, students, don't block the doorway, line up this way..."
Luo Jun observed that the spiritual Display Screen showed the faces of the examinees, which everyone could see, while the Root Bone Display Screen was behind the Great Bell and could only be seen by the teacher in charge of recording. It took about two or three minutes to measure one person, and there was still some time before it was his turn.
As soon as a familiar voice came, Luo Jun looked and saw that the person in charge of maintaining order was a petite, cute girl with a round face. Wasn't that Senior Sister Miao?
I met this Senior during my Subject Two). Although she had a fiery temper, she was a nice person and took good care of me.
"I knew I hadn't misjudged you!" Senior Sister Miao laughed. "You're officially my junior now, so work hard!" She then patted Luo Jun on the shoulder.
The Round-faced Girl was taken aback, turned her head, frowned slightly as she recalled, then her eyes lit up. "It's you! You really passed the exam!"
"You can see for yourself whether it's spiritual or not." Senior Sister Miao was quite patient with him. She pointed to the student who was being tested. He was a student with good talent in the class. He sat in the chair, connected the catheter, and after a moment, the reading appeared—eighteen.
"This means that when he just broke through to the Body Refinement Realm, each unit of his Root Bone could generate eighteen breaths of vital energy." Senior Sister Miao exclaimed, "This kid has good potential. A spiritual energy level exceeding fifteen is already considered talented. Keep cultivating, he has a bright future."
Sensing a hint of condescension in Senior Sister Miao's praise, Luo Jun tactfully followed up with, "How much spirituality do you possess, Senior?"
Senior Sister Miao chuckled and held up three fingers, "Three times."
Luo Jun was taken aback, then realized. "Three times that of an average person? That's thirty times the spirituality? Senior is indeed exceptionally talented!"
"No..." Senior Sister Miao shook her head and pointed to the freshman who had just finished testing his spirituality and was walking towards the "Great Bell".
"That's three times his."
"Joke!"
This exclamation came entirely from Luo Jun's heart.
Three times 18 points would be over 50 points. Even if Senior Sister Miao's Root Bone is ordinary, if she cultivates to the fifth level of the Body Refinement Realm, she would have about 400 Breath Vital Energy. If she doesn't compare to a Root Bone monster like Luo Jun, she would be able to crush most Cultivators.
"Senior, you're amazing!"
This compliment was somewhat contrived. However, Senior Sister Miao seemed quite pleased and even showed a little humility. "Spiritual talent is indeed my strength, but there are many who are stronger than me. As far as I know, the monstrous siblings of the Ling Family both have spiritual talents above 100 points... In the more than 100 years since humans came into contact with Yuan Qi, there have been very few geniuses of that level."
"Therefore, you must understand that there are always people more capable than you, so humbly learn from them."
In the end, they really did put on some of the airs of Senior.
"Senior is right, I will definitely work hard." Luo Jun replied politely, then asked the question he was concerned about.
"And what about Root Bone? How much is considered strong?"
"The difference in Root Bone isn't as dramatic as the difference in spiritual talent..." The Senior pointed to the Great Bell: "The readings on the back are accurate to one decimal place, with a standard value of 1.0. The vast majority are between 0.9 and 1.1. It's considered good if it exceeds 1.2, and those who can break twice that are considered rare geniuses. Those who can reach three times that are extremely rare."
As she spoke, Senior Sister Miao suddenly whispered, "However, I heard that many years ago there was a prodigy Root Bone was ten times greater than that of ordinary people! He was also a student at a certain academy at the time, and when his Root Bone was measured, it showed 10.0, causing a sensation. Moreover, it is said that 10.0 is the upper limit of the test, so no one knows exactly how much more than ten times higher he was."
This description reminded Luo Jun of the genius senior Senior Brother his Master had mentioned before. Apart from that one chance mention, his Master had never revealed any information about him again.
"Who is this person?" Luo Jun asked.
Senior Sister Miao pouted and shrugged. "I don't know. I've inquired about it before. Such a Peerless Genius should be recorded in history, but there's never been any mention of his existence in official records. It's probably just a made-up campus legend."
Just then, a teacher's voice came from afar. "Miao Miao, come over here and help!"
"Alright, coming!" Senior Sister Miao replied, turning back to instruct, "Hurry back to the group, it'll be your turn soon."
After saying that, he ran towards the teacher.
While they were chatting, the group moved forward quite a bit, and there were only a dozen or so people left in front of Luo Jun.
Only the teacher can see the Root Bone, and the maximum is 10.0... How can we utilize this information?
Luo Jun began to think of a solution...
